Magdownload ng "Expense Manager" app sa phone, and i-log ang bawat gastos up to the last peso. :P

Any tips po on saving money while in college?

Since I'm still dependent on my parents, allowance lang ang source of money ko and I really want  to not ask them for more money when I want to buy things that are not really necessary :)

nagcocommute kaba or nagdodorm?

siguro the simplest and easiest to do is bring water with you when you go to school, para di kana laging buy sa canteen..also bring snacks with you like biscuits, 2pcs would only cost you 10pesos compared to a spag meal sa canteen.

also use your book in writing notes.

5.  My husband & i love coffee, so we just bought an espresso machine.  It may be expensive at first, pero sulit na sa amin.  Lumalabas na 3 pesos lang for a cup of coffee.  I just buy the beans in Framers Market.

I love coffee, too. Pero instead of using an espresso machine, we use French press. Hot water lang kailangan. Before I buy Starbucks coffee beans pero ngayon since nasa Batangas na kami nakatira, Kapeng Barako na, sobrang laking tipid. Mas masarap pa! :)

Ako aminin ko envelope system doesn't work for me - madali kasi sa akin na magalaw (not to mention it's also hot with other people in the house and I don't like carrying wads of money going home). I use bank accounts instead and online banking and Excel spreadsheet. I always come up with a weekly budget kasi weekly akong may income. However, I hope it helps some sisses or maybe ask the help of your husband/partner if you are starting out (oftentimes they are better at crunching numbers). I understand, my system of dividing funds might not really be for all (I'm very good with numbers and like working with them).

Bank account #1 is a checking account where income and expenses are the transactions. I call it "income and expenses account". Funds come out in many ways: by issuing checks, bills payment via online banking and fund transfer to bank account #2 and #3 and to time deposits. Although I can use the ATM card that comes with the checking account to withdraw cash or swipe sa mga terminals - I rarely use those options and do fund transfer to bank account #2 or use a credit card.

* Note: yung mga grocery and gas expenses ko each week are charged to my credit card. Bank account #1 pays the bill.

This bank account #1 is checked too often. Sama-sama lang lahat ng transactions ko doon.

Bank account #2 is a low-maintaining balance savings ATM account which only holds money that I need for my daily expenses. I call it "cash on hand". Dito napupunta ang baon ng anak, personal expenses and recreation/weekend expenses. I withdraw the cash from an ATM, and pay in cash. I don't use the credit/debit card on these kinds of expenses para di masira ang budgeting ko. So that limits me - pag ubos na ang pera, then it's time to go home. Kaya it's important for me to have this separate account from bank account #1 because that account holds a good amount of money.

Bank account #3 is a passbook account which is labelled as "emergency fund". Doon ko nilalagay ang emergency fund covering 9 months of expenses. Basically malaki ang amount na nakalagay dito so I had to pick a not-so-convenient way of taking out funds.

Bank account #4 is a savings ATM account which holds money for other things on the budget na medyo biglaan ang expenses at mga bagay na iniipunan ko which I call "Sinking fund". Yung mga budget na biglaan ang mga expenses, such as the LPG, pambili ng bigas, car repairs nandito sa fund na ito. As well as funds na kailangan ko pang ipunin such as tuition fees, clothing and accessories, dental and medical expenses, vacations, home improvements. This particular bank account is heavily tracked with an excel spreadsheet para alam ko ang budget allocation ng bawat isa.

Since there are some funds in bank account #4 na malalaki at di pa naman kailangan agad, I put those other amounts in time deposits kung meron na ang funds para di magalaw. Yung tuition fee, I pay it every 60 or 90 days, so nasa TD ang mga ito. Ganun rin sa vacations, kung may pondo na tapos wala pang balak magbakasyon, it is also parked in the TD.

All that above is possible kung iisa ang bank where you do the online banking. I do mine with BPI's. Yung time deposit sa bangko na ito madaling mag-open using only online banking so there's no need to visit a BPI branch. That way madaling ma-keep track na rin ang mga nailagay sa TD.

Commute po! Thanks for the water idea, t's great since I can go a long time without an appetite for food but not without water, will do that next week :) wala pong books sa university namin eh, puro handouts lang na bibilhin sa photocopying centers. Yun talaga, I feel, yung kumakain ng allowance ko since barya-barya lang po siya  every handout (usually 10-50 pesos) pero madalas po kasi per subject.

nung college ako, sa bahay ako kumakain ng lunch kasi i make sure only to enroll subjects na pang umaga. by lunch time onwards, nasa bahay na ako.

I agree with this sis. Mas mura na ang sun prepaid nalang kasi my TU200 na which comes with 500 texts to all networks at may pang call pa din naman ata sun to sun.  I also have a globe prepaid at lagi ako nagaavail nung immortal trio. mas matipid yun at wala pang expiry.

I love brewed coffee, so instead of buying from expensive shops, I just make it using the ground coffee beans which you can buy from the market for about 50 pesos per a medium size tin :-)

Stay away from liabilities.

I dunno kung mag work sa inyo pero mahilig ako mag kwenta ng gastos ko for the day as in kasi nalalaman ko totoong expenses ko, thus na pipicture ko ang mga goals ko in the next few months.

Learn to say no lagi, like hindi mo naman kelangan bilhin lahat kahit kaya mo.

Laging nagwowork sa akin yung categorizing those that I want to buy kung NEED or WANT.

It works all the time for me!
