Slow-Carb Diet

Anyone here who is on a slow-carb diet?

Just a quick summary from the book "4-Hour body" by Timothy Ferris.

Rule #1: Avoid “white” carbohydrates. Don’t eat bread, pasta, rice (brown or white), grains, potatoes, breaded fried food or dairy on your slow-carb days.

Rule #2: Eat the same few meals over and over again. Meals should include protein, legumes, and non-starchy vegetables; eat as much as you like, 3-4x/day.

Rule #3: Don’t drink calories. Avoid milk (including soy), sweetened soda (no more than 16oz of diet), and fruit juice. One or two glasses of red wine are permitted.

Rule #4: Don’t eat fruit. Tomatoes and avocados are okay (the latter in moderation).

Rule #5: Take one day off per week. Go nuts and eat lots of calories to keep your metabolic rate (thyroid function, conversion of T4 to T3, leptin) up. Do at least five days of rules 1-4 before following rule 5. Better to take the day off on Saturday. Start with your slow-carb diet on Monday.

Best thing about this diet?
What i like about this diet is that you get to have a cheat day. As in for 1 day you can eat ANYTHING you like.. Kahit 3pcs ng snickers at puro junk kainin mo okay lang.

My Take:
I just started 2 weeks ago and lost 8lbs. Actually, I still eat dairy(yogurt and milk) kaya medjo altered na yung ginagawa ko. Like other diets, sa start lang sya mahirap. After 1 week, sanay ka na kumain ng puro gulay at meat lang. Whenever I eat outside, I look for mongolian places. Pinapatanggal ko yung rice and sotanghon tapos konti lang yung sauce. You can also eat at mexican places. You buy the salad burrito(without the tortilla, rice, corn) then add more beans nalang. It's a bit of a hassle to eat out because you have to look around first before deciding what you can eat. Pero worth it naman kasi you can see results.  I also try to do cardio 2x a week and weight training 2x a week.

imogen888, yup I did. I like yogurt, milk and cheese.  I should make an experiment next week not to take any dairy. Baka easier to lose.  When are you planning to start your diet?

this is sort of like the diet that i'm on and i'm a huge proponent of it. i think most of the advise about good nutrition is bad. it just promotes junk foods for the benefit of these big corporations without thinking of the havoc the wrong kinds of food bring to our bodies.

anyway, i generally follow this except i'm on a very carb restricted diet. no dairy especially low fat fruit flavored yogurt  - that is not healthy at all(except cream, sour cream and cheese. the milk in my latte i replace with soy milk and then use splenda instead of sugar, and i don't do latte's very often na) and i don't do cheat days, the reason being that our bodies switch to a different type of metabolism when you rid it of carbs (it starts burning stored fat, a process called ketosis, which also suppresses appetite because you don't have to eat so much to have energy, it's using stored fat and converting it to energy) so when you flood your body with carbs again (on your cheat day) it takes your body at least 3 days to switch back to ketosis from glycosis (burning carbs for fuel) and this causes a stall. sayang ng effort.
