Mga sis! May masusuggest ba kayo na place na puwede magoutreach? Like an area ha. Hindi po mga institution. Yung mismomg place mg mga family who needs help kasi pag nasa insti tuition na most likely they receive help talaga unlike those na nasa labas. If may massuggest naman kayo. Done na po sa smokey and sa aeta community, dito muna sa malapit like manila or cavite. Super busy sa work eh. ;)

Ewan ko ha. I don't wanna be nega but I don't really like doing dole-out programs like what I've said on my previous post. Siguro for those who are doing it, may sense of fulfillment but it's just short term eh. School supplies and other things get used up eventually then they need another set na naman until indirectly they or their parents form a habit na they won't find a way to make their lives better themselves because someone else is doing it for them na. I've been to Vitas, Tondo near smoky mountain and that's the most depressed area I've seen my entire life but mind you there's SM Hypermarket right in front and VCF building near the area as well. It's freaking weird and ironic. What I'm trying to say is that if we can instill to them that they can still make their situations better without making asa to the charity organizations, that would be better. Kase think about it, if we keep giving dole outs, anong pinagkaiba natin sa mga politicians na tumutulong sa mga mahihirap (kuno) by giving tiny stuff every now and then just for them to keep begging for more. We're just making them stay where they are. So why not teach the pulubis to work? Ang mahirap kase saten mas madali satin magbigay ng pera or kung anuman kesa time and then we feel goody goody agad because of that not knowing that we're doing more harm than good. Kudos to those who happen to be facilitating livelihood programs. That's where help is really being given.

^Hi sis, I get your point naman. Kaya maganda rin sa outreach is magbibigay ka ng talk to say na dapat magsikap din yung mga bibigyan or whatever motivational speech/plan you have in mind. I know of one outreach group who gives slippers/school supplies sa far-flung provinces and then they teach the concept of paying it forward. There's a movie about it if you want to explore more of that. Ang point is hindi lang bigay ng bigay but ieexplain mo rin sa kanila yung ginagawa mo and what they can do themselves.

So yes magaan sa pakiramdam helping those people.

In the several months na sumasama ako sa mga outreach events meron talaga kaming nakakausap na against sa ganito. Normally yung mga ayaw magbigay biglang magsasabi ng things like baka kurakutin lang daw yung pera or sasabihin di naman nakakatulong ang outreach talaga etc etc. Kaya nga maganda sa mga outreach e tumatanggap ng mga willing magbigay out of the goodness of their hearts and di namimilit or nangungumbinse pa. So at the end of the day meron kang sagot sa, am I just one of those people who do nothing but talk and whine or am I one of those who give effort to help other people or society in whatever way I can?

I respect your pov sis Juliet but I dont think ginagawa natin silang palaasa sa mga munting tulong na ibinibigay natin, para sakin mas binibigyan natin sila ng chance to survive, chance na makapg aral ng mabuti when providing them school supplies, chance to have a better future by providing scholarships that way mapuputol yung cycle ng kahirapan. Syempre kailangan din nlang pagsumikapan yung magandang future na yun but don't you think its much easier for them if there are people who are willing to extend a helping hand along the way? Wala naman kasi talaga tayong masyadong aasahan sa Gov't since busy sila sa pagpapayaman, not all but most em so kung nakakaluwag naman su buhay go ahead and help.

And I agree with every single one of them except dun sa point ng surviving. Medyo idealist kase ako eh. What's the point of it all kung surviving pala ang goal. Life should not be all about surviving. We should live our lives. Not survive from our lives. I tried volunteering rin naman but there's just this sickening feeling na am i just doing this just for me to feel good about myself kase nakatulong ako or para talagang makatulong ako? Kase parang for me ah, ang selfish nung ganung dating. To feel good about myself. Kaya kahit shortterm lang yung tulong, ok na yan kase i felt good naman doing it eh. Parang ganun. Kase feeling ko what I'm doing is not enough. I want to be able to see my natulungan in the future na maayos. Hindi yung ganong state pa rin.

^Well, ako sis I volunteer kasi gusto kong makatulong and gusto ko malaman sa sarili ko na I'm doing something for the society. I feel better when I do. So I guess kanya-kanya lang yan. If a person volunteers to feel good about him/herself, who am I to say that's wrong? Most of the things we do and chase to do are those that make us feel good.

Anyway. May mga nagmessage sa'kin here in gt, hope to hear from/see you in outreach events. :)

Thank you sa nagdonate for the Maniwaya outreach, napostponed due to weather conditions but napushed through naman just last long weekend. :) School supplies, slippers and hygiene kits ang pinamigay to 100+ kids.

We have other upcoming outreach events this October and November. :)

hi purple strawberry, san ang outreach nyo sa October and November? :)

i agree with you sisses, nasa tao lang talaga yan. i grew up seeing my elders donating sacks of rice in an orphanage run by nuns.
for now, i choose to diversify my means in outreach events whether giving time/ service or by donating :)

ladies, what do you usually give when you go on a hospital outreach? I'm making a list of what to get eh but I don't really know where to start :-\

Usually ba, anong medicine and supplies kelangan nila?

Gusto ko rin sana bigyan ng grocery items yung parents nila... but again, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT!

I want to buy them food rin when we're there... ano bang pwde? Wag na siguro Jollibee, McDonalds, BK, and the likes...

suggestions naman :)

^Sis better ask dun sa hospital mismo kasi sila mas nakakaalam ano yung needs ng pagbibigyan niyo and food na pwede ibigay.

^^Olongapo sis and siargao. :) Open kami for donations. Meron din kami fundraising we sell dri-fit shirts pangsupplement.

^that will be hard kasi I'm based overseas. I don't really know who to call or to email. I haven't been back to the hospital since I was 18 yrs old and I'm 33 now.

^You'll have to find a way siguro sis kasi mahirap naman ata magplan ka ng outreach na hindi nakikipagcoordinate sa mismong hospital baka masayang lang ang effort mo.

dati resident doctor yung cousin ko sa pgh, and madalas niya sinasabi nakakaawa yung mga patients doon na talagang mahirap. madalas sa awa niya siya nagaabono ng laboratory fees nila. i just don't know kung paano magdonate towards that specific cause.

Mga sis meron kaming outreach group, you can find us in facebook - Alon ng Pag-asa.

I think namention na yan before dito. Our group gives school supplies, groceries, books and/or whatever the needs are of children in far-flung communities. Ang masaya dito it promotes voluntourism, which means aside from the outreach event we also provide time for leisure travel sa pupuntahan (kkb of course). We accept cash or donations in kind. :) Even a small amount can go a long way.

We also accept new volunteers pero best magconfirm early kasi limited lang din slots for volunteers per event.

Maraming outreach/volunteering opportunities sa Facebook actually. Meron group Volunteer Opportunities - Philippines if you want to look for more options.

For those who are looking for outreach activities na pwede bigyan ng items or other donations, we have one in Siargao sa first week po ng November. Target po namin is yung poor communities sa islands, both kids and adults. Medyo sad ang story ng Siargao because most people think expensive dun kaso sa tourism di naman locals ang nakikinabang.

We will be needing basic school supplies, groceries, hygiene kits, even used clothes basta maayos pa. If you have items na wala sa list but pwede magamit, please PM me.

i somewhat agree with you sis. at the same time i want din to help kaso torn din ako sa situation kasi i have the same sentiments that you have.

also i have some relatives din who are not doing well, so isa ring debate i have in my mind is why would i help people na hindi ko kilala when i cannot even help my relatives na medyo nagsstruggle din. so ayun. dilemma.

as far as social programs, sana meron na people who are willing to learn, and we can help them by teaching them what we know para they can find a job.

like, i work in BPO industry, and marami ang jobless and marami ding company na naghahanap ng employee without experience. what i can impart them is to teach them the basics (pro bono), since not all filipino's first language is english, i can teach them, i am not saying i am great at it, but i know that's one of the things i can offer para they can find a job of their own and hopefully excel in that industry.

may mga nakikita kasi ako na school/center na nagtuturo pano makapasok sa BPO and they have to pay for it pa. what i have in mind is offering to teach them for free even once a week lang.

with this idea, you would really know sinu yung willing talaga umasenso and hindi yung asa lang sa "donation" just because they know meron namang tutulong.

Me and my GT friend went to Grace to be Born last October 3 for my post bday outreach. 2nd year ko na to. Last year nagpa feeding program ako sa isang foundation sa tulong na din ng iba pang GT sisses. Promise ko sa sarili ko last year na if tuloy tuloy pa din ang blessings na natatanggap ko, itutuloy ko na every year.  Hopefully next year may budget pa din.

Nice ^sis killbill.. this is also how i want to celebrate my birthday. When i tell this to my friends yung iba parang gulat lang tapos sabihin pang artista lang daw yun. I don't think so.. we don't have so much to offer pero feeling ko mas ok to share yung handa to those who needs it instead of celebrating it with people that are close to me na meron naman. My fiance agreed we do it silently  na lang on my birthday. 😊
