hi doc lelet...my son just turned 7 months a few days ago. and im really scared of the recent reports saying that measles daw is uso nowadays. can i get him vaccinated this early? sabi kasi ng pedia too early pa.

^ The measles vaccine can be given as early as 6 months of age, especially during times of outbreaks. At that age kasi, the maternal antibodies to measles in Filipino infants start to decrease/wane so they are susceptible to getting the measles infection.

hello po, baby ko po nagkasinat nung dec 25 then natuloy sa lagnat kinabukasan then gumaling na dec 28, then now po oks naman siya pero napansin ko my butlig sa face red dots pero hindi naman super red, tigdas po kaya yun? possible kaya dahil lang sa lamig? if tigdas oks lang po ba siya ma electric fan?

hi mga mommies, last dec 25 ng afternoon biglang ang init ni baby then nung gabi na nag aapoy na lagnat nia kahit painumin ko paracetamol hindi nagsusubside. for three nights naglalaro ang temperature ni baby sa 102-104 degree Fahrenheit. pero pag morning mas mababa. dec 25 siya nagstart lagnatin dec 28 pinacheck pa sa pedia nia physically walang nakitang pwedeng cause ng fever nia, no rashes, so pinapalab test (urine, cbc, xray). then dec 28 ng gabi nawala fever ni baby, dec 29 nagstart lamabas yung rashes, sa leeg then sa muka hanggang likod. hindi ko makontak si doc kasi sunday walang clinic, holiday pa naman today. hindi ko pa napa labtest si baby kasi tigdas hangin ang suspect namen. yung pinsan ko kasi 5 days ago nagkatigdas. ano ba pinagkaiba ng TIGDAS at TIGDAS HANGIN? ano yung symptoms which is which. hayy. nakaka paranoid.

You can still have your child vaccinated with the MMR vaccine. Even adults can get vaccinated with the MMR vaccine.

If Roseola: 3 to 5 days of high grade fever; child may be irritable or ill looking; child may have cough or colds prior to or with fever; swollen lymph nodes
Once the fever disappears, the rash begins to appear on the trunk (body/chest) then spreads out. Rash may last 3 to 5 days also

If German measles or Rubella: 1 to 3 days of low to moderate grade fever with note of swollen lymph nodes, may have mild cough or colds, sore eyes/conjunctivitis
Once fever disappears, rash appears on the face and neck then spreads to other areas of the body. Rash may last for 3 days then may disappear or become scaly after.

Children with tigdas or tigdas hangin can have a bath, can go inside an airconditioned room or a room with electric fan. It is better that they are in a cool environment since the rashes in itself make their skin feel warmer than usual.

doc question ulit...hiw effective ba are these vaccines? kasi like yung isa kong pamangkin may tigdas ngayon pero vaccinated naman daw sabi ng mom. bakit kaya nahawa pa din?

^it doesn't mean naman that if you get vaccinated you will not totally get infected. At the very least, the effect is not that serious as compared to those who were not vaccinated

^^ Like what hunny_ally said, vaccination doesn't offer 100% protection. A child can still get infected, but may have milder symptoms, the number of days infected may be shorter and there is lesser chance of complications compared to an unvaccinated child. Thus, it is still better to have the child vaccinated compared to getting the actual disease and having complications.
Measles is a highly fatal disease and it is a disease prone to complications such as pneumonia, ear infections, diarrhea, etc. because it depresses the immune system of the infected individual.
Also, infants less than 12 months of age has increase chances of getting sub-acute sclerosing panencephalitis.

There should be 3 doses of the measles vaccine:
6 to 9 months - measles monovaccine
12 to 15 months - 1st dose of the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine
4 to 6 years of age - 2nd dose of the MMR vaccine

earliest na ba yung 6 months? my baby is 5 months palang and uuwi kami in manila in 2 weeks. nagkataon pa na may outbreak!! any tips para wag mahawa si baby? we have to go to the hospital too dahil may allergist appointment sya face masks for babies meron ba?

is this an airborne disease? kelangan ba ng direct contact with a measles patient before mahawa?

safe ba mag mall sandali si baby (di ko masyado maiiwan sa bahay kasi )

^ Did you get measles before? If yes, then supposedly may protection ang baby mo sa measles via your maternal measles antibodies. The reason why the measles vaccine is recommended to be given at 6 to 9 months of age is because that is the time the maternal measles antibodies in Filipino infants start to disappear or wane.
Droplet ang mode of transmission ng measles but it can also spread airborne by respiratory droplets.
I would not suggest bringing your baby to the malls nor any crowded places in Metro Manila at this time because of the outbreak.

doc letlet yung anak ko po nagkaroon ng rashes or mga pantal sa buong katawan pati sa pisngi. mag third day na po ngayon pero hindi naman po nilagnat since day 1. magana naman kumain at masigla pa rin naman po parang walang masamang nararamdaman. nakakaawa lang po kasi tignan dahil puro pantal at nangangati sya... tigdas hangin po kaya yun? nag-start po lumabas yung pantal the day after na matapos yung pang seventh-day-period na inom nya ng ng co-amoxiclav at inosiplex dahil last week po na diagnose sya ng pedia na nagka hand foot and mouth disease. my daughter is almost 2 years and 10 months old na po

^I've never had measles before but 3 months before I got pregnant with my daughter (August 2012), I had an MMR vaccine.

^ If you were given MMR vaccine a few months prior to pregnancy, then your immune system had enough time to create antibodies against Measles, mumps and rubella. These antibodies were also passed on to your daughter as part of the maternal antibodies so your baby will be partially protected.
Still, I wouldn't recommend going out to crowded places while you are here.

Hi Doc Lelet.

Found out from my son's pedia that his serology test was positive.  Is there a possibility that he will not complications (SSPE) in the years to come?  I'm so paranoid after I learned of the result though the infectious diseases doctor already discussed about said complications in the years to come.  His pedia said, let's just pray that he'll overcome it.

^ According to the CDC, only 8 to 11 patients in 100,000 develop SSPE after acquiring the measles infection at an early age so there is a possibility that your child may not get it. Unfortunately, at this point, we do not have the technology to be able to predict who will get SSPE or who will not so you really have to be observant about his developmental milestones. I agree with your pedia also that let's pray that he will overcome it.

Hi . Ask ko lang po if normal lang po magkarooj ng tigdas hangin ang 2months old baby .
Nagkarun po kase ang baby ko . As of now , nag rarange po and temp nya 36.7 to 37.3
And dame nga po rashes . Nag umpisa sa leeg then kanina lang po nagspread .
Hindi naman po siya nawalan ng gana mag milk .
Please answer po. Im so scared 😥😥

^ Best to confirm diagnosis with your pedia. Your pedia is always the best person to diagnose your child's illness since he or she is the only one who will be able to get a good history and perform a good physical examination.
Anyway, with tigdas hangin, appearance of rash is preceded by 2 to 3 days of fever. Temp range of 36.7 to 37.3 is within the normal range.

You are contagious 4 days prior to rash appearance and 4 days after the rashes appear. As to how long the illness will last depends on how good your immune system is in combating the infection (1 to 2 weeks depending on presence of complications). If you were vaccinated with Measles before, there is a chance that the duration will be shorter and there is lesser chance for complications.
