baby ko naman 18mos old lahat ng pedia na napuntahan namin even pedia-pulmo ang sabi may asthma siya at super nalungkot talaga ako

pero pinacheck ko siya kay dra lelet, and she said na hindi sila basta-basta nag sasabi na may asthma ang isang bata lalo na kung wala pang 2 years old, and syempre super happy ako. Clinic ni dra lelet sa Poblacion makati & healthway Robinson place manila & greenbelt 5 lang mga sis wala siya sa market-market, may junior card baby ko sa market, lahat sila ang record may asthma baby ko. kaya di na ako babalik doon hehe. Now ang binigay sa baby ko for 1month para hindi matuloy sa hika (sana mag work so help me God)

Base on my experience..

Kapag ubo siya ng ubo before sleep and during sleep.. Di na siya mapakali sa pagtulog..Magtataka during the day [textspeak!] naman pero pag gabi na o madaling araw dun aatake..

May time paglabas lang namin sa mall or sa restaurant basta kung saan magtrigger lalo na kung may allergic rhinitis ayun na..

Usually incessant coughing..

Hi sisses. For those who have nebulizers at home, what brand would you recommend? Planning to buy one within this week for my kid. I'm looking at Pulmoneb Devilbiss (Mercury has this) or Omron. Alin kaya ang mas matibay?

^I bought the blue cross brand from a friend pero available din sa watson, 4 years ko na siyang gamit so far so good naman. Hindi pa nasisira kahit madalas namin gamitin.

Just bought Devilbiss Pulmoneb. Was contemplating on getting an Omron nebulizer I saw online but buying it would be a hassle since the supplier is from Marikina (we're from QC). Bought Pulmoneb from Mercury. Mukhang mas mura nga talaga sa Bambang pero ang layo na masyado.

Just came from my kid's pedia-allergo. Aside from the antibiotics (he has atypical pneumonia), my kid was also prescribed montelukast for 2 weeks. From what I've read, montelukast is taken to prevent asthma attacks. Ibig sabihin ba for maintenance na rin ito? Napansin ko kasi during the -ber months up to January my kid easily gets sick (sniffles and cough). I'm wondering if I can give him montelukast during these months to help prevent him from getting sick often.

^ Sa case namin ng kids ko, lahat kami naka-Montelukast na since August of this year and sabi ng allergologist namin (Dr. Michelle De Vera), ituloy-tuloy na namin hanggang February.  Yung attacks kasi namin happen during the -ber and cooler months of the year.  But we started ng August because of the erratic weather at sinusumpong na kami ng morning cough and sneezing kasi.

Why kaya 2 weeks lang naka-prescribe ang Montelukast sa son mo?  May follow-up ba kayo with the allergologist?  Based on my understanding, it takes a while for Montelukast to take effect, unlike the typical steroid na pang-contra sa symptoms ng asthma na almost instantaneous ang effect.  If may follow-up kayo, baka i-o-observe muna ng allergologist if effective ang Montelukast for your child, or if hindi effective, baka he needs other meds like a nasal spray, inhaler or the like.

Best siguro for you to go back in two weeks' time sa allergologist for a follow-up so you can ask for a maintenance plan/strategy kaysa umulit ang symptoms.

According to my son's allergo there was a patient daw who was on montelukast for 2 years continuously. Not sure Lang if that was her patient.

^^We're due for another check-up next week. I'll ask the doc about montelukast as maintenance med. For the past years I've been dreading the -ber months lalo na ang January kasi sa panahong ito humihina talaga resistensya niya. Thanks for the info marose. I'll ask the doc about what you shared re montelukast. Thanks also hunny_ally. : )

Another question, may difference ba sa lasa ng montelukast kastair and singulair chewable tablet? We've been prescribed kastair. Was just curious if singulair tastes better. My kid's not complaining about the taste though. He just said it tastes weird.

^ How old is your son?  When my sons were around 1 1/2 or 2 years old, they took Singulair granules which we mix with a bit of milk.  As soon as they could chew the chewable tablet, we switched to the cheaper Montiget.  We also tried Kastair but I think Montiget is cheaper.  For me naman, Kastorion 10 mg.  It's the cheapest 10 mg. Montelukast, I think.

My sons still experience coughing from time to time but hindi na kasing-grabe as before.  Konting nebulize lang,  okay na sila.  Hindi gaya before na nakakaawa talaga sila kapag umuubo kasi nagigising.  Ang coughing fits pa naman happen usually sa madaling araw.  And their coughing only occurs for a few days and during early morning lang nga.  What we do is to nebulize them at night para mahimbing ang tulog nila.

And yes, in some cases of grabe asthma, tuloy-tuloy lang daw ang Montelukast according to our doctors.

My son also had those coughing fits. Kawawa nga talaga kasi halos hindi makatulog sa gabi. Good thing we already have a nebulizer. Nakaantabay lang tuwing aatakihin.

I'm not pretty sure how specifically to identify their difference, pero based on my experiences with my kids.

Allergic Rhinitis - my eldest keeps on sneezing when he wakes up, before he sleeps, when he gets tired or he smells something that irritates his nose like dust, smoke, etc. His eyes are watery and walang tigil ang bahing niya, then super kamot sa eyes because they are itchy din daw.

Asthma - my kids cannot breathe properly, has a cat-a-like sound when breathing, gets sick easily, cough which lasts for weeks with colds, has low level of oxygen and has phlegm all the time when they get sick

The Flu Vaccine has been very effective to all of us, including me na may asthma.
The things I stated are based on my observations lang from my kids and from my experiences sis, ha...

^ Thanks sis! allergic rhinitis nga yung sa son ko, kaso pag umiiyak sya para syang may asthma, nahihirapan na makahinga sa kaiiyak. saka recently nagkasakit sya ubo at lagnat, his pedia prescribed an expectorant anti-asthma broncaire, kaya i was thinking baka may asthma ang anak ko.
