Apart from the Canon 50mm f1.8, do any of you have suggestions as to what lens should an amateur photographer need next in her arsenal?

 

Budget is only in the 5k-20K area.

mga sis! ako din! i really love Photography. at the moment I still have my Canon Powershot A480 and i want to upgrade this year to a Canon EOS 1100d na may kasama ng 18-55mm lens, kita ko sa sulit mga 20k niya binebenta almost brand new daw.

or if i go to Hidalgo, may mas mura kayang price don yung camera na gusto ko? medyo malayo kasi ako...

mag brand new ka na lang sis. delikado kasi sa sulit kapag gadgets di mo alam ang history.

kung malayo sayo ang quiapo, mag glorietta ka na lang. meron dun branch ang henry's at 500 lang daw ang price difference sa quiapo branch nila. dun ako nakabili ng d3200 ko. 21k lang.

^ It makes a difference if you know to use your equipment. You can also take great shots using a point and shoot cameras.

I am a beginner, btw. I started using a Sony digicam. Now I have a Canon rebel T3i (600D).
I took classes sa studio ni Winston Baltasar. Ni-recommend lang ng friend ko kasi mura, pero he is so patient and wacky hehe.. https://www.facebook.com/winston.baltasar?fref=ts

With him, I was able to really understand how to use Manual Mode of the camera. He made it seem so easy.

I also usually scour the internet for tutorials when I have extra time (that's not eaten up by blogging). Thinking of joining a workshop too, but I guess it's not happening now as I don't have leaves to spare.

sisters, i want to start this hobby na. help me naman to buy my first DSLR. ano ba talaga mas okay, canon o nikon? sorry sa mao-offend pero for me it's like iphone vs samsung. correct me if im wrong nalang. i am really lost sa pagpili. hanggang sa di na ako nakakabili ng dslr dahil nauubos pera ko! haha.

@pretty_B I like the analogy. Pero tama naman, haha. Canon-apple : Nikon-samsung
Ako I prefer Canon dlsrs, neat tignan. Depende talaga yan sa preference ng user eh Di naman nagkakatalo yang mga yan sa performance kasi nasa gagamit yan, sa techniques or lens na gagamitin nya.
Consider yung itsura, if that's a factor for you - for me kasi it is, price, durability. Sa paligid mo, alin ang mas madalas ginagamit ng mga kakilala mo? Maybe you should also consider that, if you're in the same bunch mas madali ka nilang magu-guide.
If ever you choose canon, suggest ko sa pang beginner 600d or 1100d. Mas maganda ang pag-ipunan mo e mga lens. Better investment. Ang mga body paiba iba at palaging may bagong labas yan. Pero you can never go wrong with your lenses.

speaking of lenses, can a nikkor lens, which normally is for a nikon dslr can fit in a cannon dslr? pwede ba iswap ang lenses ng cannon 1100d with nikon d3200, for example?

 ^^haha. ganun talaga tingin ko sa canon vs nikon sis budwhiz! anyway, at first ang plano ko is to buy canon but then nagresearch ako, i just dont know if its enough. ito ang mga pinagpipilian ko and kung bakit ko sya cinoconsider:

Canon EOS 600D, 650D and 700D
pros: touchscreen lcd (650D and 700D), articulated screen
cons: compared sa Nikon D5100 and D5200 (based sa nagoogle ko. haha), runner-up lang ito and mas pricey pa. tsk.

Nikon D5200
pros: higher megapixel, mas latest (in terms of released date), lower price and may color RED!
cons: mejo common na kasi (ATA?! ) cons ito sa akin kasi most of my friends used nikon parang di na unique. haha. kaya nga mas preferred ko din ang red kesa black eh.

PS: lahat ba ng nabanggit kong models ay pwede gamitan ng remote control? yung nikon lang kasi ang alam ko.

@ Ms. G yup meron yun, lens mount adapter. Search ka nalang sa net kung san makakabili.

@pretty_B Hmm pareho lang pala tayo na tinitignan din kung common na sa paligid o hindi. haha! Naku sis, para sakin ha? Versus Canon or Nikon, parang mas common na talaga ang Nikon. Isa pang fact yung mas affordable kasi. Factor ba sayo yung mas mataas na MP? Kasi kung for hobby lang naman, like hindi magagamit sa printads o billboards, if you're planning to post it lang sa blogs, facebook, pa-develop, hindi na masyadong magmamatter kung alin mas lamang. Hindi na obvious yun. Since pare-pareho silang dslr naman, magaganda na talaga ang quality. Besides kung puro upload ang gagawin mo eh mas maganda kung lower mp kasi mas maliit na file size. Hehe nasayo pa rin yan, kung okay lang sayo ang 5+ mb size per photo. Edi go!
Ako now I have a mirrorless cam, it's only 10mp ha. But capable of taking stunning photos.

Anong remote ang ibig mo sabihin sis, yung shutter release o wireless?

Just keep shooting, sis. It takes practice. You need to be comfortable using your camera. I have to say that being familiar with your camera's manual settings does help a lot.

^oh, i appreciate your pieces of advice. and i understand what you mean. i know somebody who owns an expensive camera but his shots are just so awful. haha! 

do you think it's necessary to enroll in a photography class? i wanna learn how to take great landscape shots din!

I have the same question as Mikasa. Do you think that a class/workshop would be essential for an enthusiast? I've been learning from experience lang and internet tutorials so far.

BTW, does anyone here own a TAMRON 17-50mm lens? OK ba? I have the kit lens lang and a 50mm f1.8 prime lens. A friend suggested the Tamron to me.
