^ Reasonable naman ang Php400/hour, whether it is for a few or for all subjects (IMO, hindi naman kaya sa 1 hour lang ang lahat ng subjects if ever).  Check with the tutor kung strict ba siya sa oras.  Some tutors charge extra kapag lumampas sa 1 hour, some do not.  Discuss her tutoring style and your goals for your child para malinaw ang parameters ng tutoring ninyo.  Regarding the fee, check din kung may monthly fee siya for unlimited hours baka mas makamura ka.

thanks for the advice sis marose.  i asked my son if mas naiintindihan ba nya ang lessons with his tutor's help. mas naiintindihan naman daw nya. malaking tulong din si tutor especially during his 1st quarter exams. i saw the reviewers prepared by his tutor and comprehensive naman. pero, i also made a second follow-through review just to make sure na naintindihan talaga ng anak ko. i am hoping that his 1st quarter grades will be ok (i'm not expecting all 90 and above, basta at least sana line of 8's ang grades). dun ko rin kasi malalaman how effective is the tutor.

^ Tutors only supplement the lessons and follow through. Parents must still do their fair share of tutoring.  I agree kailangan tutok pa rin tayo. I tutor my kids every weekend and when they have important quizzes, I go home early to review them kahit na alam kong nag-review na sila ng tutor.  I also communicate regularly with the tutor para alam ko kung saan kailangan ng follow-up. . Hindi ko lang talaga kaya ang daily tutoring with homework kasi I work and ang DAMI talaga ng homework ng mga kids ko.  At weekly may quizzes sila for every subject.


Pero so far, so good.  My kids love to study and are always interested to learn. And they got high grades this first quarter.

wow buti pala nabasa ko itong thread na ito..ang mahal pala ng charge nun sa tutorial na inioffer sakin P4300 a month tapos twice a week lang at 1.5 hours buti hindi ko pa agad inigrab.

mga sis, need your opinion and/or advice sana.. my son talked to me last week.. he is asking me if he can try a new tutor daw.. when i asked him why, he told me na he feels neglected daw kasi kapag dumadating na yung next tutee, kahit daw may exercises pa sila na ginagawa, his tutor leaves him na daw.. i talked to him to remind him na kapag walang exams, 1 hr lang talaga schedule nya sa tutor.. but during exams week naman, his tutor spends up to 2 hrs per session with him.. sa himig nga salita ng son ko, para syang nagtatampo dun sa tutor nya.. on my end naman, i notice that there were a few instances na hindi lahat ng exam topics naco-cover nila ng tutor nya.. but his tutor tries to focus on the subjects and topics na hirap yung son ko kaya siguro hindi nila naco-cover lahat.. sa palagay nyo ba mga sis, should i start looking or scouting for a new tutor? haist..

^ Talk to the tutor muna or better yet, try to go with your son one day so you can observe if mukhang nane-neglect na nga ng tutor ang son mo.  Explain mo rin sa son mo na tutors only supplement the lessons in class and he also has to study on his own. If okay naman ang rapport nila, I don't recommend getting a new tutor immediately since it also takes time to establish a good relationship with a tutor.

One hour of tutorial session cannot really cover every subject.

^ thanks for your feedback sis marose. i think one cause of the problem is yung sched ng son ko sa tutor nya. he is scheduled from 12:30 to 01:30pm. eto na lang kasi yung available time nung tutor nya. isiningit na nga lang sya kasi the tutor and i have a common friend. actually, wala naman din sa akin if he really needs to spend 1.5 - 2hrs per session especially on those subjects na hirap sya. nagri-review din naman kami at home - especially during major quizzes and the periodical exams. hindi ko na lang din kaya yung everyday review kasi working mom din ako. with regards sa rapport, i think they're ok.. tinanong ko din kasi yung son ko, if napapagalitan or nasisigawan ba sya ni tutor. sabi nya, hindi naman daw. there are times pa nga daw na his tutor gives him snacks kasi tanghali nga yung schedule nya. sige sis, i'll try to talk to the tutor muna and my son din.. thanks again!

Yes, if home service ( on call ) usually it's by the hour, if sa center it's the owner of the center who assigns a tutor for your kid. It's cheaper if you go to the center than have them "on call."

This 4th quarter I really feel shortchanged with my son's tutor. Parang hindi worth yung hourly rate charge nya. For one, during the final exams week, there are topics na hindi nila na-review. Buti na lang I still do a 2nd round of review w/ my son kaya na-check ko with him that they did not cover it during their tutorial session. Difficult pa nman yung topic na naiwan. Second, my son's dismissal time during exam week is earlier. I initially asked her if pwede ba after school derecho na review since may baon nman food yun son ko, so di yun gutom. Para longer rest time for my son before I get home and we do a quick follow up review. She told me initially oks lang. Then come exams wk, ayun na.. She requested if pwede hapon na lang daw kasi may lakad sya in the morning. Buti na lang, napakiusapan ko yung brother ko to do the hatid/sundo. I am not complaining about the rate as long as nakikita ko na hindi na hassle yung follow up review namin ng son ko. Thing is, kapag kami na ang nagrireview parang hindi nag tutor nung afternoon ang anak ko. Nakakainis lang din na ako na nga ang nagbabayad, ako pa ang need mag-adjust sa schedule nya, to think we have agreed about it before the start of the exams week. Haist!! Kung di lang may common friend kami at baka mapahiya yung common friend namin na nag-recommend sa kanya, I would have really talked to her. Buti na lang last quarter na. I would no longer consider her next school year. Perhaps, I would just opt for those tutorial centers near my son's school. Haist.. Sorry for whining mga sis. Super frustrated lang talaga.

Hi! I'm a tutor/teacher. Siguro masusuggest ko when you get a new tutor next year, you talk with your tutor about your expectations at the beginning. like for example, gusto mo lahat ma-cover, ask if she can assure the schedule, or maybe you can ask what her other jobs are na kung flexible iyon schedule come exam week. Sometimes din, it's really hard to cover everything for the exams or even on regular days when the topics are hard or when they have lots of homework in an hour (1 hour ba tutor ng anak mo?). If you're willing to pay extra for extension, ask the tutor is she/he is willing to extend just to make sure that all the topics are covered. Sa totoo lang, grabe ang coverage ng schools nowadays. You want your tutee to really master everything, but time is not enough. Try also looking for a former teacher in your child's school. it helps when the tutor knows the system/style of the school. ^ hi sis. thanks for the tips. yup. 1 hour lang son ko sa kanya kasi may iba rin sya tutees. but during exams week, their review last for about 2 hours. ok lang naman yung magbayad ng extra especially during exams week kasi alam ko rin na madugo nga yun period na yun. actually, ok naman sya (tutor) during the 1st 3 quarters. as in the schedule was ok and all topics were covered. magkasundo sila ng son ko. itong 4th quarter lang nagka-problem. mas stressful lang syempre, kasi last quarter na 'to, and (modesty aside), my son is gunning for an honor spot (tutor knows it). siguro nga sis, come next year, i need to be very specific with the tutor on my expectations. thanks ulit sa advice!
