How did you get your love for reading?

naging tambay lang ako sa school library eh yung librarian pinapaalis if walang ginagawa doon so i pretended to read until eventually reading encyclopedias became interesting na tapos i go to the library na to really read at hinde na para magpalamig hahaha.

as far as i can remember, nong kindergarten ako, lagi akong nanghihiram ng komiks sa tindahan ng kapitbahay namin, i even saved my baon para lang maka rent ng Komiks, super love ko kasi yong Aliwan Komiks yong story na Zuma ba yon, yong may ahas, haha. bata nga naman!

noong Grade 6 ako. binigyan ako ng mommy ko ng isang Nancy Drew book. ayun i ended up collecting 10 of the books. then Naaddict ako sa harry potter. and up to now ang hilig ko talaga ay chick lit and fantasy. hindi ako masyado mahilig sa mga love stories

Since elementary then I stopped after college and when I recieved an ipad mini as a gift from ex that's the time balik ulit ako into reading..

Gradeschool ako nun ng nagsimula ako sa mga encyclopedia books nahilig ako sa mga history and mythology tpos nung High School naman mga comics katulad ng archie and friends, pugad baboy, pupung, garfield. then nung 1st yr college ako nahilig naman ako sa mga books ni bob ong.

I guess one time I got bored, picked up a random book which turned out to be something awesome and then the addiction hobby started.

bagets pa lang ako super hilig ko na magbasa, una newspaper lang ng papa ko.
Then nung elementary, my mom bought me a Baby-Sitters club book (series #11 sya, natandaan ko pa). Then yun, nung nalaman kong series pala sya, everytime na dadaan kami sa bookstore I make it a point na bibili ako ng isang book ng BSC. Even buying from second-hand bookshops.
Tapos high school, Sweet Valley (Thank God for the library! tumatawag pa lola ko sa school namin pag ang hindi pa ko umuuwi ng 5PM, good thing she's friends with the librarian. hehe..) tska meron ding pocketbooks for rent malapit sa school namin for my tagalog pocketbooks..
Then college, nung una second hand books bilang d ko afford ang brand new then come eBooks. nung una bumibili pa ko pero sa tyaga ko, natuto akong maghanap ng mga gusto ko since ayokong magbayad/bumili sa mga online resellers. hehe.. Salamat naman at nauso din ang ebook reader app sa mga cellphones!

i think i started around 4 or 5 years old.. my aunt used to send fairy tale books and the usual classic stories for children.
at first, it was all about looking at the pictures, then i started learning to read and then yun na-till now.. =)

It started when I was a toddler. My cousin gave me those fairy tale books that have a cassette tape with them. My mom and dad also influenced me to read a lot.

My father is an avid reader so he basically forced us to read haha. Seriously, since I can remember laging books ang regalo sa akin. I remember when I was in grade school he even bought yung speed reading book with matching cassette tapes so I can learn how to read faster.

Bata pa lang ako mahilig na ako magbasa.  I remember thinking na the stuff I saw in books were so interesting compared to what was on TV and what was going on in the world around me.

i don't recall exactly what age ako nagstart na magkainteres sa pagbabasa, basta ang naalala ko lang lagi ako naghahanap ng babasahin. I'd pick up any reading material available like old magazines, newspaper, komiks, tagalog/english pocketbooks..  Enjoy ako dun, para akong may sariling mundo for a few hours..

Yung Booksale isa yan sa staple na pinupuntahan ko sa mall up to now may anak na ako. I guess naipamana ko sa daughter ko yung love for reading. She's starting to write na her own short stories and she even records her own impromptu story telling at age 7.

When I was pregnant with her, I watched one Oprah episode, para syang may buntis congress nun, lahat ng audience members nya preggy and she would give baby stuff, etc. One of the gifts she gave was a bunch of nursery books, she told her audience  to teach their children to read. Nag stuck sa isip ko yun kaya I exposed my daughter sa books at an early age. With her and my books combined, I think we will have a teeny mini library na.

in my case, parang part na ng personality ko. I'm the only book reader/lover in the family. Kahit hindi ako religious e pati Bible stories/ Our Daily Bread nabasa ko dahil sa sobrang hilig magbasa.

Wow, I love your own stories! Nakakatuwa. So I'll share mine...

I guess it started from See-Oh-See, yung book for kids na nag-uumpisa palang magbasa. Nakailang books ako ng series na yun na pinaparecite sakin sa bahay. Tuwang tuwa silang nagbabasa ako. Haha. Then level up, Fairy Tales naka 20 books ata ako nun.

Came gradeschool, Sweet Valley, Baby Sitters and other kiddie books. Uso pa manghiram sa Library (my happy place). Sulit ang Library Fee sa tuition. 

Highschool and college, di parin nawala ang passion for reading series novels (the famous ones). Upto now! Kahit busy sa work, I still find time to read. Stress-reliever.

Books take you to strange places.

My mom would read to us as kids, as in bedtime stories. She didn't have a lot of money but she would buy us a lot of books. She also took us to the local library frequently.

I've always loved reading growing up. In one of my philosophy classes, our professor said that books open us up to an infinite number of possibilities that we can never hope to encounter in our lifetime.

It's a little challenging finding time to ready now that I'm working and have my own family, but I found I'd rather read than watch TV

Grade school ako when I started reading sweet valley series, fear streat and even harlequin and mills and boons (romance novels talaga ito!). I lived with my grandma and she's very strict. She wanted me to maintain my status of being in the honor roll. She required me to study daily so ako, I stay inside my room to study "kuno" but with a pocket book in between the pages of my academic books. Everytime she checks on me, ilipat ko ng page yung acad book pretending to study.

Tapos, we weren't that well off, wala kami pangbili ng mga pocketbooks noon, I borrow from neighbors, friends and my library card for the year was always not enough kasi nauubos ko yung spaces with pocketbooks that I borrow from school. Para-paraan talaga!

My love for books started started at a very young age. My parents lalo na my dad encouraged us to read books. Whenever nasa States kami, we would go to Barnes & Noble and spend the whole day there. Tapos we get to buy whatever books we wanted as long as age appropriate of course LOL

i started at grade 3 when i transferred to a new school and my new friends like to hangout at the library.. at first archie comics, disney fairytales and alamat ng ___ (alamat ng sampaguita, saging, pinya, etc.) books lang ang hilig ko.. then i discovered sweet valley, fear street, boxcar children, goosebumps and other books na kasali sa mga pinadala ng tita ko via balikbayan boxes.. My food allowance usually goes to buying second hand books and renting books at a local rent-a-book store.
