i've tried this here in makati. i lasted for 2 mos then i decided it's not for me.
one thing to expect... it's hot inside the studio. depending on the humidity (or your threshold of heat), sometimes it feels like it's summer in there and this was during january - february. so imagine during the summer months!
another is that you'll sweat buckets! recommended nila that you wear something dry-fit yung material. no jogging pants and loose tops. seriously. i've had first timer classmates who made the mistake of wearing them and naawa ako sa kanila talaga. most of my classmates wear yoga clothes (short shorts and tanktop/sports bra) while others naka 2-piece swimsuit. literally. for me i wear my 1 piece swimsuit. at first medjo i felt stupid wearing that but during the class i realized na tama yung choice of clothing ko. i can move more freely and easier to check if i'm doing the poses correctly. don't worry if nahihiya ka sa mga bulges mo. i have lots of them (and in the wrong places) but who cares. you're there for you so concentrate on that.
during the 1st week, i did it for 5 straight days. the first 3 days was hell (or feels like it due to the heat). nahirapan ako sa poses kasi hindi ko pa nakukuha yung proper breathing technique plus sobrang pawis at init na init talaga ako. feeling ko i need to drink every few minutes pero as much as possible dapat hindi lage dahil mas mahirap gawin yung poses with a stomach full of water. ang secret daw dun dapat i-control yung need mo to drink and yung uncomfortable feeling na sobrang init by concentrating on the poses. in short really get into the poses.
by the 2nd week, it was better na. i learned to breath easier tapos yung thirst ko was more manageable. and i learned to enjoy the class despite the heat and not being able to do all the poses.
while attending classes wala pa naman ako naabutan nahinimatay pero meron na nag-cramps ng sobra, meron din na-hilo ng sobra. if mangyari yun sayo just sit down and quietly get the attention of the instructor if you need help. tutulungan ka nila lalo na kung first timer ka.
some reminders:
* drink LOTS of water during the day. more than 8 glasses. you'll need it.
* try not to eat at least 4hrs prior to going to class (if needed talga eat banana instead)
* wear comfortable, dry-fit clothes. seriously. no jogging pants/leggings or heavy materials for shorts/tops.
* bring extra towel, the big one. you'll need one during the class and another for taking a bath.
* if you can't do the full pose, it doesn't matter, you'll eventually get it. try a fraction harder next time (bend a little more lower/hold the pose a little bit longer) but don't force yourself when it becomes too uncomfortable (that's how you get injured/cramps).
* show respect to your classmates and instructor by not leaving the studio without permission from the instructor. if you just suddenly leave you might interrupt the concentration of your classmates and the flow of the class itself. nangyari yun one time sa class and medjo nainis yung instructor. if feeling mo di mo na kaya yung init, sit down (japanese style) and wait it out.
* it's ok to sweat. di mo need na i-wipe every drop of sweat that falls from you. actually, some instructors will even tell you not to wipe your sweat. learn to work around it. dito ko natutunan mahalin ang pagpapawis!
* lastly, enjoy and feel your body respond!
