^Believe those schools are strict when it comes to applications, esp UST. december pa lang sarado na ang applications nila for SY 2010-2011. We cannot do something about it. Should you really want to go to either of the schools, go with your nmat this coming april then apply as early as october for SY 2011-2012. Now, kung atat ka naman na mag medicine this year, you may settle for other medical schools out there na di strict when it comes to nmat( pwede sa kanila na to follow nalang ang nmat).although this is also possible for both UST and UERMMC before the application  for admission deadline, i think its too late for you to apply for this incoming school year.

I'm planning po kasi to enroll sa UERM this June. I'll be taking up the NMAT this April palang.. pwede po kaya yun?

This med school thing just got rushed kasi I had to decide up to the last minute.. I really wanted to go to UERM.. or UST perhaps (pag yumaman nako ng bonggang bongga  )

My friend told me na last Jan 15 pa daw last day ng pasahan ng reqs for the admission??

i'm sorry but your friend is right. matagal nang closed ang applications sa UST (& probably sa UE). they aren't accepting applicants (for the incoming school year) na kukuha pa lang ng NMAT 2 months before the school starts. hindi lang NMAT ang requirement. my interviews pa, exam na binibigay. at this time, they have probably released a list of eligible applicants for first year (including those wait-listed). if you're planning to enroll to any of these schools by june, you'll be disappointed because it won't happen. you'll have to wait when the schools start to accept applicants for the ffing school yr na (that is, kung desidido ka pa rin na pumasok sa med school).

however, there are some med schools which accept april NMAT scores (DLSU , EAC) & maybe are still accepting applications. you can try there, kung talagang desidido ka nang pumasok sa med school by june.

that sucks.. had I known earlier, I would've worked on it.. I'll be turning 24 next year

Honestly, med school is my 3rd career option.. If my nursing career would be stuck in a rut, I'd be considering taking my masters OR the med school if ever my rate reached my dream school's NMAT grade..

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise??  LOL

^Just consider it as a blessing in  disguise,ikaw na nga ang nagsabi na 3rd option mo lang ang medicine, so spend the time thinking things over as to where you really want to go since going to medical school is not an easy task. goodluck

Yeah I guess so... although it is my 3rd choice, I feel the enthusiasm for med school like it was my first choice.. LOL ang labo.. 

I dunno.. baka kasi I put it in the 3rd choice kasi nga in the first place I graduated as a nurse.. and mas madaling i develop ang career since my base na.. Sa med kasi, I have to start studying pa ulit para ma-earn yung degree.

But regarding the commitment and heavy load both academically and socially, I'm certain about it and have thought of it a seven million times. No problems with that.

^sure thing:) just take your time. ako ilang taon din nag isip and was already building a niche in the corporate world, but eventually took the risk of going into medicine. mahirap maka adjust dahil its been 5 years since ive graduated pero kaya naman kung magsisipag lang talaga ako goodluck uli sa iyo

going into med school is not an easy decision. i was also in your situation years ago (med school or ituloy pa yung pre-med career ko). i knew that if i started it, i have to finish it. kahit na pang-ilang decision mo pa yan, you have several months to think about it. kung ambisyon mo talagang maging isang doctor balang araw, then go for it.

Hello, mga sis. Hindi po ako med student or doctor, pero my sister is planning to go to med school. If you don't mind me asking, ballpark figure lang naman, how much per sem ang nagagastos niyo? Tuition fees, books, misc fees, etc? Curious lang ako para naman alam ng parents ko kung anong pinapasukan nila. Hehe. Thanks so much!!

^kung incoming first year,expect to shell out 200k (2 semester/s) for the tuition alone, mga 20-30k for the books, 100k for the yearly allowance? then again, it depends sa school na papasukan ng kapatid mo

how does clerkship go ba? do you still have duty on weekends? pano ba ang duty dun? my first rotation din is IM... natatakot na nakakaexcite!

^ clerkship is your first taste/experience in the hospital. you rotate in all departments (IM, surgery, pedia, ob-gyne, etc.) for a certain time frame (1 month or 2 months, or even 2 weeks depending on your program) for the entire year. you do your history taking, physical exam, do some basic procedures (like iv insertion, ngt insertion, foley cath insertion), assist in surgical procedures, and do those "edema" rounds on your patients. you will also have admitting conferences, lecture series (but less of what you've attended to during the first 3 years), grand rounds.

during my time, "duty" is technically staying at the hospital for 24hrs straight. then the ffing day, we are "from duty" but we only leave the hospital 5pm pa. then the next day, we report at the hospital as "pre-duty" - be at the hospital from 7am to 5pm. then "duty" ulit.. the cycle goes on and on. yes, we go on duty during weekends and holidays. no excemption. my times pa nagkaroon kami ng "skeletal duty" - meaning, duty lang ang papasok (pre-duty clerks doesn't have to stay long at the hospital, papasok lang for attendance then uuwi na; yung from duty clerks uuwi na after endorsement).

nowadays, clerkship duty hours is less and they're more lenient. some hospitals give the clerks fixed hours of rest before assuming "duty post". some, maaga nakakauwi pag "from duty" status (12nn instead of 5pm pa). as 1 of our family-doctor/consultant has said, "bine-baby" ang mga clerks. you still have to go on duty pag sundays &/or holidays kapag natatapat na duty ka.

as i describe it, malilito ka pa. but once you've started it, masasanay ka na rin.

lucky you less na nga ang duty hours nyo. true mahirap sya but masaya. it will test kung gusto mo talaga maging duktor.

for now, enjoy the remaining days/weeks before you start clerkship. be prepared for this phase "there's no such thing as first time in medicine".
