During the 1st months of our marriage, eh nakarinig ako nang mga dialogue na:

hi mga sis! I will post my household's T&T na (thanks to our sis who pointed this out.hehe)
some you might find revolting (LOL!) but i'll share it pa din
FOOD
-freeze leftovers
spag bolognese, any meat dishes pwede ifreeze AFAIK
-freeze vegetables in season
lalo na pag may mga tanim kayo like beans, peppers, etc. or, freeze veg that are in season
-pad up on fiber and veg
mas nakakabusog
-cook from scratch
-plan a menu,batch cook, then freeze in portions
very handy pambaon
-bake snackies
-use 'healthy' extenders
like tofu, grated carrots etc
(I ALREADY POSTED ELECTRICITY,SO START TAYO SA WATER)
-maximise water usage
when the w. machine is dispensing soapy water, sinasabayan ko ng linis ng floor sa dirty kitchen
-collect rain water for plants.just cover it well para hindi pamahayan ng critters
GAS
-cook more 'inasal'
-again, batch cooking
-turn off heat after boiling.like pag nagluluto ng green veg, instead na pakuluin till it's soft, turn cooker off,cover the pot, and let it cook by itsef
OTHERS
-hang clothes outside than using spin dry
-maximise cleaning materials.f you can find 'multisurface' polish or 'multipurpose' cleanser mas maganda
-newspapers,use for placemats or messy art projects.better yet, don't buy them.manod nalang ng tv or go to the net.
-pag nasa days out,don't bring handwipes.just keep a damp flannel in a microtub & a bottle of alcohol
-to get the bits out of lotion/shampoo bottles: remove the caps & warm the bottle in a micro for a few minutes.will make the contents flow easier again
-add a little vinegar to salad dressing to get all the leftover bits out
-cut toothpaste tubes
-water down dishwashing liquid, handsoap, shampoo, etc.
-collect crumbs from the bottom of bread/cereal bag then use as a crispy coating.pwede to I-freeze
-add a drop of varnish remover to old gunky nail polish to loosen it off
-use butter wrapper for greasing baking tins
-scrape out what's left from a tube of lipstick, mix with a little vaseline & seal in a pot.tinted lipbam
-decant liquid in pump bottles
-recycle gift wrappers
-for kid's uniforms, don't throw the whole lot away.get the reusable parts: buttons, buckles, zips etc
-make reusable period pads.if nasa bahay lang naman, or it's not the peak yet, this will save you loads

^ sis,I remember my mum nung bata pa ako lagi syang nagtatahi nito.you know yung pasador? parang ganon pero in a shape of period pad with wings,tapos yung wings nya may tacks to go round your undies.igoogle mo sis, 'reusable menstrual pad' may mga pics sila sa net

^yes sis yun nga! naku nosebleed ang paggawa nun eh.meron ako dito 'tipid' version nga lang.hehe.handstitch to:
-get an old towel.kahit face towel pwede.if its a big one, cut it to little squares/rectangles
-fold mo sya longways to resemble a pad
-kuha ka ng old cotton shirt/pyjamas then cut mo din sya ng ganung shape
-wrap it round the towel. stitch the sides
-maglagay ka din ng stitches sa surface para hindi umikot or mag bunch up sa loob yung towel
-i've got two ideas kung pano mo sya ilalagay sa undies:
-get a piece of fabric, stitch it on one side, then put tacks on the other side.
-get one of your 'pambahay' undies then stitch it right on there

Hi Marose!

Did you ever get around to buying Household Hints and Tips?  I came across that book some months ago.  Now that I am looking for reading materials for household help I suddenly remembered it.  Okay ba sya or I need to digest it for them?

Dearies, try nyo to read this book - It's All Too Much by Peter Walsh. Available at Powerbooks - P905.00.  Baka helpful sa household management attempts nating lahat.  

Let me know what you think.

Raspberry, lawyer ka din pala like me.   

I actually bought the book na.  It's very good ha - lots of useful tips.  May book din na similar sa House Detox (from the same publisher) called Household Hints and Tips.  It's what I was planning to buy talaga.  Both books are ring-bound, has pictures and tabs for ease of reference.  I was going to give to my tita who needs a bit of help decluttering her home but I really liked the book so I'm keeping it.  I ordered na lang another copy for her.

Hi happy_pomelo!  Okay yung book (Household Hints and Tips), may ibang materials lang that you cannot easily find here, I guess.  Like borax?  Saan ba nakakabili ng borax? I think you need to digest/translate in Tagalog the tips in the book for the helpers.

You know what else I find helpful?  Good Housekeeping's Maid Manual.  It has worksheets and lists pa which your helpers may use.  Get a copy din.  It's around P200 yata. 

I'll check the Peter Walsh book nga.

I am married to an "OC" and yes, mahirap.. especially that he is the "husband" feeling ko napakaburara kong asawa, naturingang babae pa man din ako.. iniisip ko na lang normal ako, sya ang hindi normal. ang mahirap pa, yung anak namin nakukuha na ang pagiging OC ng ama nya. sus mio!

When I saw the Good Housekeeping manual before, I initially thought it is for the amo - to relay to the helpers.    That's why I started another thread on this.

May I bring us back to our basic rules?

Our home is supposed to be our sanctuary and expression of the kind of lifestyle OUR family prefers. 

We must be slaves to a house nor a lifestyle.  It should be the reverse:  our homes should serve us well. 

How we define what our sanctuary is,  and how we get to achieving that ... kanya kanyang wants vs can-do's. 

With all respective individual constraints in terms of time, money, energy, etc...   the key lies in simplifying our possessions and lifestyle, and in making efficient our tasks and relationships with house staff. 

The thing is,  after a reasonable length of time of organizing and orienting our household staff... everything should look effortless.
 
Life is too short.
Whether your house is run the way Hitler managed his Gestapo units, or it is all a happy mess ... as long as you are content with what surrounds you, and it all works for you (not drags you down or throws more obtacles into your day sched/relationships) ... fine.  Tama na.

Life is too short ... at the end of each day, there should be happy conversation with someone you love over a glass of wine, a cup of hot coffee/tea, or glass of plain water.

I'm a fan of that magazine!   Super helpful articles on lifestyle, fashion, home management, with recipes etc.  There was an issue on cleaning up at home - what you can do if you only have say 5 minutes, 15 minutes or the weekend.  I'll look it up and try to post the highlights here.

They also have books - Real Simple Solutions, Real Simple Celebrations, Real Simple Weddings.  I got a copy of The Organized Home.  Very practical and inspiring tips.
