Have you had your child's test score changed by his/her teacher?

Hi mga sis,

My nephew brought home his test papers today, nag-summative test kasi sila last week. He is five years old and currently in prep level. Ako ang nagtu-tutor sa kanya daily at nagre-review sa kanya for tests. I'm happy dahil mataas ang nakuha niyang scores sa tests pero parang gusto ko i-question yung result ng Science test niya.

He got 18 answers correct out of 20 questions. He was given 2 mark downs in the identification of body parts portion. Kailangan nila mag-draw ng line from the spelled name ng body part to the actual location nito sa picture. Yung unang mali daw niya is yung head...he drew a line to the head naman but it ended sa cheek. Sa correction ng teacher niya, she extended the line to the hair/top/bumbunan. Eh part naman ng head ang cheek di ba?

The second error daw was the body. sa book nila, the term used is torso to designate yung part from shoulder hanggang waist. So yung line niya for body ended somewhere between the shoulder and arm. May iba pa siyang lines for arms and shoulder so clearly eh body/torso yung tinuturo niya. His teacher marked it wrong and corrected it by extending the line sa bandang chest area. If we'd be technical about it, body/katawan naman ang tinatanong at hindi ang torso kaya kahit saang parte lumanding yung line niya eh tama naman yata siya.

A part of me wants na i-clarify sa teacher niya yung dalawang mali niya...kumbaga parang ipa-reconsider ko para makuha niya yung two points. Pero iniisip ko din naman na two points lang naman yun, very minimal na puwede na i-let go. Have you been in a situation where kinailangan ninyo ipa-reconsider/ilaban yung scores/grades ng mga bagets ninyo? Should I talk to the teacher or dedma na lang?

I dont see anything wrong when the teacher pointed out the hair or bunbunan as head in any chart I saw and also when you teach a child you dont point your cheek as head its always the skull part I mean maybe the teacher did that so as to avoid confusion.

Hello. Let go mo na. 2 points lang naman. ang mahalaga is knowledge ng bata na talagang alam niya ang part ng head at body. Hindi lang namn exam ang batayan, minsan common sense.  Naexperience ko na din yan at alam ko ang feelings na gusto ko iclarify sa teacher bakit mali ang anak ko. Sa spelling namn. minalian ng teacher sa word na study. noong una di ko matanggap kasi mali nya is letter 'U". As per result, my son wrote it correctly but how he wrote letter u is something like letter a kasi halos nagkadikit [textspeak!] dalawang dulo ng letter u kaya nagmukang letter a. Grade 1 na anak ko, pero ang pagsulat nya ng letter "a" is kung paano nakatype sa book, tulad ng font in this post. so common sense lang diba.

yes, naka experience na rin ko ng ganyan , nag no note ako sa teacher re pag may mga question ako sa score/test , if di ako satisfied sa sagot nag papa appointment ako sa teacher

Yes, more than once. Minsan one point lang, kung iisipin mo ano, dapat let go na lang kasi ok lang naman magkamali.

Ang sa akin lang naman, if you're not 'satisfied' with how the teacher marked it, wala naman siguro mali na magtanong. You're not going to go to the teacher naman to argue, just to ask.

Minsan kasi, may problema dun sa test question mismo. Either confusing, or mali talaga si teacher. That happened last year with my first-grader, I wrote to the teacher and explained yung pagkakaintindi ko. I told her, I may still be wrong in my understanding, but that maybe she can revisit the test and look into it again? And yun, she admitted na nagkamali sya, she corrected it - not just for my kid, but she also returned points for all the other kids that she marked wrong doon sa items na yun. I think that was two or three points.

If I let that go, marami-rami ding kids na akala nila mali yung sinagot nila, pero tama naman pala. And baka moving forward, yun yung maalala nila na 'ay mali pala yung sagot na yun' - so instead na matutunan nila yung tama, ang natatak sa kanila yung doubt sa sagot nila (na tama naman)...

Hindi naman infallible ang teachers, sa dami ng ginagawa din nila, pwedeng pwede silang malito, magkamali, so really, when we ask questions sa kanila  (in a respectful way ha. , we're helping them pa to be better. All the teachers na nagpa-correct ako before, they appreciated it pa. And hats off naman ako to them for being true educators and professionals, dahil hindi sila nagdalawang-isip i-admit na mali sila.
