Macbook pro or Windows based laptop

I'm planning to buy a new personal laptop dahil palagi na lang sira yung acer laptop ko na 5 years ko nang gamit. I'm torn whether I will buy a macbook pro or another windows based laptop such as toshiba, lenovo or acer.

I will be using the laptop mainly for browsing the web, watching videos and preparing documents using microsoft word. I also have a laptop which is provided by our office which is windows based but I do not bring it at home. My main hesitation in buying a macbook pro is that i might have difficulty in receiving, opening and editing files sent by my colleagues using windows based laptop and vice versa, another thing is the adjustment since sa office windows based ang ginagamit ko hindi pa naman ako sanay na nagdadala nang gamit gusto ko yung sa bahay sa bahay lang yung sa office sa office lang so concern ko na baka di ko na mabuksan or ma edit yung files na ginawa ko sa bahay sa office and baka magkalito lito ako.

Sa windows based naman concern ko nahirapan na akong mag update and it's prone to virus. Hindi pa naman ako techie. Yung acer ko kasi nakailang beses na ako nag pa repair kasi palaging nag ka crash yung mga applications so I want to try macbook pro naman sana.

Anyone who has encountered the same dilemma? I would appreciate any insights/inputs. Thanks

^get a mac you'll never regret the purchase. Small learning curve lang naman but everything will sync and work well cross platform, you can even install parallels if you really need windows. Since you already have an office-issued-windows-based-laptop just think of the mac as a fun break from what you use at work akin to a cool stress-free vacation.

Thank you sis for replying to my post. I already bought a macbook pro last November and you are right I did not regret the purchase. I did not install parallels since I don't think i need it but I bought and install the MS office for MAC.

This is a problem I'm having now. I'm thinking of getting a macbook, but I'm concerned about the transition. I've only used windows,, baka super mahirapan ako sa pagswitch. At least kasi sa MS, madali lang magtransfer and copy ng files.

Concern ko rin yan dati sis. Hindi naman mahirap mag switch. Install ka lang nang MS office for MAC

^Hindi ka nahirapan sa pag-locate or copy ng files? Madali lang kasi magtransfer ng files pag windows di ba, kahit from camera, usb, smartphones. Another thing, android user ako di rin compatible pag mac. Gustong gusto ko sana talaga mag mac kaya lang baka super hassle sa pag handle ng files

Hindi ko pa nasubukan mag transfer nang files using camera, usb or smartphone sis. Browsing lang sa web tapos email and microsoft office lang ang madalas na ginagamit ko pero yung mga files na pinapadala sa email and vice versa wala naman akong nagiging problema. Android ka pala sis ako kasi iOS na talaga before ako bumili nang macbook so baka nga magkaproblema transferring files from Android to macbook.

^That's another thing to consider pa kasi, yung phone..gusto ko talaga android eh  Naisip ko nga, bili na lang siguro ako ng used macbook kahit luma na para lang ma-try ko.

May sample naman sa store sis kaya lang di ko lang sure kung papayag silang i pa insert yung usb or smartphone.

Both are fine actually pero for practical reasons na lang, I would suggest to just get a new windows based machine para diretso mo na rin magagamit at wala ka magiging problema masyado sa compatibility. Masira man yan atleast madaming shops na pwede mapagpa-aayusan at hindi rin mahirap makahanap ng software for it.

If you do decide to get a mac, don't worry, madali lang naman ang transition. Very minor lang naman ang differences between the two machines - ang nakakalito lang naman kasi yung kung san ka pipindot and how to navigate around. There are plenty of helpful resources online to assist you with this.

Sabi nga nung kakilala ko, mac is very easy to use once you get the hang of it. Ang nakakapag complicate lang daw kasi yung mga apps. Is this true? Di din naman kasi techie yung friend ko na yun.

^ it is actually quite simple to use to be honest, parang sanayan lang talaga kasi kanya kanyang preference pa rin kasi when it comes to convenience and ease of use.

Yung confusion sa apps is more on the navigation siguro, baka dun lang sya nalilito. Andyan kasi yung close buttons na kung dati nasa upper right sya sa windows, sa mac naman nasa upper left tapos familiarity na rin sa keyboard shortcuts, etc.

^ Piece of advice lang po, only get a mac if you think you would really need one - masyadong costly ang isang unit tapos hindi madali maghanap ng mapagpapaayusan in case it goes bonkers on you.

Don't get me wrong, having been a user of both machines myself (im on my windows most of the time at home), ang quality at durability ng isang gadget ay wala sa brand, nasa gumagamit lang yan so don't be fooled with the fancy features that comes with it nor don't get too caught up din in making comparisons between other brands on which one is a good buy and which one isn't. Ganda nga ng Mac/windows mo pero hindi ka naman ingat sa pag gamit at pag maintenance then sooner or later it will give so ibayong ingat pa din syempre.

I know you're almost dead set in getting a mac right now, try mo mag tingin ng alternatives muna. For starters, you can always check the gilmore website and look around.

^Thanks for the advice. I've heard and read so many good things about mac, its security, usability, not to mention Apple's highly raved customer service. Its about want rather than need for me. I've been wanting to get a mac since 2 years ago pa, I've been putting it off because I'm just so used sa windows and I'm worried sa difficulty ng pag-handle ng files.
