My Partner's Father Suddenly Doubts My Intentions
« on: September 16, 2019, 06:01:14 pm »
Hi. I have been living-in with my female partner for 5 years.  I have two kids (16 yo and 20 yo) from a previous marriage and  my ex-hubby and I haven't been in contact for 15 years.  Anyway I have always been bisexual and as mentioned, I have a partner.  We have a loving and peaceful relationship.  My family likes her so much.  Her family has always been respectful and accommodating on the few times I met them (usually during family occasions).

I know that my partner wasn't active in meeting with her family before we were together.  This is because she has a step-mom and step brother and she does not want to cause anymore conflict in her family like when she was living with them.  They're okay and all but she decided to be independent and live on her own as soon as she started earning her own money. (That's how we met each other, btw, at work).

When we met, I've been encouraging her to attend parties with her family and she takes me along. Other than that, she still doesn't communicate much with her father and I never meddled with their set-up.

Then just last weekend, we attended her grandma's 80th birthday.  Everything was good, we thought everybody had a great time.  Her cousins planned another get-together the day after which we weren't able to attend because we wanted to rest.

And then after another day my partner and I suddenly saw a comment on our facebook photo  by her dad rudely asking why she wasn't able to make it with: "ayaw ko ng walang kwentang dahilan."

My partner got frustrated because of the public calling out so she called her father.  They were on speaker so I heard the conversation.  In a nutshell, her father thinks I am driving her away from them, with "buti pa yung tatay nyan pinupuntahan mo" and "ikaw ang bumubuhay sa mga anak nyan" and other hurtful comments.

My partner and I could not figure out why he was so angry all of a sudden and he was including me in their father-daughter issue but during the party and before that we were okay naman.

Sorry for the long post.  My dilemma I guess, is, should I still go with my partner when she visits her father on Saturday?  I actually told her to go even if her first instinct was to alienate her father from her life again.  I was able to convince her but I'm torn whether I should accompany her pa.

Since we are in a same-sex relationship I feel it makes a little difference, but still somewhat the same.

Sorry you have to go through that. Some senior talaga becomes really ma-drama sometimes but that is no excuse to be hurtful like that.
If I were you, I'd rather not go muna unless partner needs me there.

Your situation is a bit tricky since you do have kids in your previous marriage.  Maybe going will not be such a bad thing, it shows that you are mature.

She doesn't really shoulder naman the needs of your kids right?  I'm guessing you can manage on your own?  Some people can be judgmental but it is what it is.

For a relationship to be healthy, both people must accept each other's feelings, show empathy for each other, and have the same idea of what's going on. heardle 80s

Suspicion ? Doubt, if unresolved, grows into suspicion over time. Suspicion is belief without proof. car games
