If you’re a Filipino overseas worker based in New York City, then this is for you. Social Security System (SSS) has just recently opened its foreign representative office in the Big Apple to make it easy for you to ensure your contributions and to claim benefits.
The office is located in The Philippine Center at 556 Fifth Avenue, sharing the same building as the Philippine Consulate General (PCG), as well as other government agencies.
According to a release, these are the following services offered by the NYC SSS branch, which is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily:
- Issuance of social security numbers;
- Verification of SSS membership, contributions, and benefit eligibility;
- Member date change request;
- Benefit claim and loan applications; and
- Annual Confirmation of Pensioners (ACOP)
Collections will be managed by SSS accredited partners Philippine National Bank, Ventaja, and Lucky Money.
Everyone is encouraged to apply as an SSS voluntary member, whether you’re a migrant, one with immigrant status, a naturalized or a dual citizen, or a permanent resident. “The OFWs’ hard-earned money from many years of working abroad will be put to good use with every SSS contribution. Their SSS savings will be their lifeline in times of contingencies such as sickness, disability, retirement or death,” noted SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Aurora C. Ignacio. You or a family member based in the U.S. can apply in the new New York office, or their offices in Los Angeles and in San Francisco.
