QS Quacquarelli Symonds, global higher education analysts, have named the world's best universities for the study of 46 subjects. Four new subjects are featured this year: Anatomy & Physiology, Hospitality, Sports-related subjects, and Theology. QS assessed 1,127 universities from 74 countries.

Harvard University was ranked as the leading institution for 15 different disciplines. In second place is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which is ranked number one for 12 subjects this year.

Singapore leads Asia in terms of the number of top-20 places achieved.

The Philippines has improved its standing in this edition of the rankings. The University of the Philippines made its mark in seven subjects (three more than last year) and four broad faculty areas (two more than last year). It also achieves the best rank positions nationally in agriculture and archaeology.

Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University were cited for two subjects and two faculty areas each.
