Maggie Wilson-Consunji is an actress, a host, and more recently, a business woman. As the owner of the two-year-old Acasa Manila which offers furniture and interior design services, she admits that she’s still continually learning.
“You know my company has only been around for two years so I'm still in the learning stages.” She shares during a recent online press event, noting that it was one reason why she was a bit scared when she was approached to become one of the mentors of Project Go, an AXN series done in partnership with GoDaddy that aims to find and support the entrepreneur with the best business idea among a pool of competitors.
“I was extremely happy to share my experiences of owning [a business]… I think, sharing your knowledge is so important because I feel sometimes, you know, people don't really want to spill the mistakes that they've made in their businesses… It's good to be vulnerable.”
In Project Go, Maggie will be mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs together with GoDaddy’s Marketing Director for Asia Tina Shieh, journalist Bea Cupin, and Ligo’s Tung brothers Macky, Mikko, and Mark.
Working with a group of business-minded Pinoys, she says that the pandemic has actually transformed previous business ideas into concepts that were more applicable flexible. “Some ideas were fresher takes on, let’s say, businesses that weren’t innovating with the times. [They] are adjusting with what is necessary now or what is needed now.” Maggie even notes that that she has been open to mentoring the show’s contestants beyond their time in front of the camera.
“I did tell our contestants or entrepreneurs that if they have any questions outside the filming of the show, do not hesitate to get in touch with me because I would be more than happy to share. And so some of them did take advantage of that.”
With so many now trying to create startups, Maggie shares her own practical lessons which she hopes would be of help: “You have to know how to take risks. Innovate. Remember why you started,” she says. “But I think another important thing is you must know your business from the inside out, meaning you need to learn how to do everything on your own. So let’s say you lose some of your staff tomorrow, you’ll still be able to manage.”
Project Go premieres on November 19 at 8:25 p.m. (7:25 p.m. JKT/BKK), simulcast on the YouTube channels of AXN Asia and GoDaddy Asia.
