Learning a new language can be a great asset not only for your travels and your career, but also for your mental health. Studies featured on the Telegraph notes that being multilingual makes you smarter, helps you multi-task better, and even ups your chances of fighting off Alzheimer’s disease and dementia when you grow older.

The Ethnologue, which is one of the premiere sources on data regarding languages, has recently released a list of 23 of the most spoken tongues in the world, which was recently shared by Global Polyglots. So if you're looking to pick up a new skill or aiming to work abroad someday, you can start with the top five, namely are Chinese, Spanish, English, Arabic, and Hindi.
