A day before the lockdown, couple Melanie Dilao and Jade Joquino, who are both working as teachers in Thailand, went back home to the Philippines for a vacation. However, due to the pandemic, they couldn't return to Thailand.

With a lot of time in their hands, Melanie and Jade took this opportunity to launch their dream business: A milk tea shop! "Every time, we [didn't] have a class, we [would head] out to have some milk tea," Jade shares in a video interview with Summit Media

This couple lives in Maasin, Iloilo, which happens to be the Bamboo Capital of the Philippines.

As science teachers, they always want to promote sustainability, so the couple thought of using bamboo cups for their business. "Since there are a lot of bamboos in Maasin, why not use [them]?"
