The pandemic hit everyone hard and fast, and it has affected many livelihoods. The food industry, for example, has suffered many losses, with small businesses shuttering due to the inability to keep up with costs. Interestingly enough, it is food that has also kept many afloat as home enterprises began to emerge and thrive, such as this teacher who stated selling cookies during the pandemic, and this former flight attendant who went into franchising after being laid off.

Entering the food industry is never a bad idea, but if you don’t have the kitchen know-how to start your own business, a franchise can be your way to go. If you have a budget, start off with a brand that already has recall, such as Hongkong Style Noodles & Dimsum.

We reached out to Asia Pacific & Global Franchise Co., the group which handles Hongkong Style Noodles & Dimsum, to ask how to sign up for a franchise. Here’s all the data that you need:

Interested? Here are tips to follow when getting into franchising for the first time:

1. Have ample capital and money to fall back on

If you’re planning to get into franchising, it’s always best to set aside more than the actual amount of the franchise package. Remember, aside from your cart, you will need to (1) hire people to man your kiosk, (2) pay for rent if your cart isn’t on your own property, and (3) regularly replenish your inventory to make sure that your business is sustainable. You’ll also need to prepare for seasonal highs and dips; make sure you have resources to fall back on just in case something happens.

2. Don’t be afraid to ask your franchisor everything.

Aside from the franchise fee, package inclusions, and application requirements, you can also ask about royalty and/or renewal fees, payment schemes, and crew hiring assistance, minimum order quantity for inventory, and other details that usually aren’t advertised. This ensures that you’re always on the same page as your franchisor.

3. Listen to those who have gone through the same.

If you know people who have also gone through the franchising route, talk to them. There are things that you can only learn from experience, so there may be a wealth of knowledge that they can teach you. Also, be open to new ways of doing things. These days, it’s important to learn how to adapt fast, so always be on the lookout for best practices.
