clean_trunk.jpgWant to save on fuel costs for your car? In an article entitled "10 Real Ways to Save Fuel" on, author Becky Striepe suggests cleaning out the trunk of your car as one way of conserving fuel.

"Removing 100 pounds (45.4 kilograms) of weight from your car gives it a fuel economy boost of 1 to 2 percent," the author says in the article. "That might sound like a lot of extra weight, but many of us use our cars' trunks as storage spaces." This means that by removing things you don't need from your trunk, you can increase the distance you travel per gallon of fuel.

Things like a baby stroller or an overnight bag can weigh down on your car if you're already bringing other stuff, so if you're not using them for the day, just leave them at home. While being ready for all situations is a good thing, just storing  the essentials in your trunk will keep the pressure off your car. Not only does this save fuel, but it also helps you keep your vehicle well-maintained too.
