Being successful is not something that's just handed to you. While it requires a lot of hard work, determination, and effort, you probably know quite a number of people who have found success in their chosen fields. Whether that’s a family member, a close friend, or a famous name, however, you can bet they didn't let these 10 habits get in the way of their success.

Admit it: Sometimes, no matter how close your deadline is, it’s tempting to just watch a movie or scroll through your Instagram feed than finish that report that’s due tomorrow. But remember, cramming all your tasks in one day can affect your productivity and the quality of your work as well. You’ve heard of the saying, "Never put off for tomorrow, what you can do today." Follow it.

People tend to be blinded because of their fear of failure, says Luis Romero, speaker and author of The Seventh Distinction: The Path to Personal Mastery, Leadership & Peak Performance. "The path to success becomes fussy and we lose confidence in ourselves. As a result, we start to doubt our higher purpose (mission) and goals (vision), thus losing all motivation," he continues.
Stop second-guessing yourself. Once you make a decision, make the best of the consequences. That's the best thing anyone can do.

Being unprepared for the unexpected
It’s always important to have a backup plan. If plan A doesn’t work, you can immediately proceed to plan B right away instead of wasting time (and energy) on coming up with a solution.

Saying, "That’s not my job"

There is always room for improvement. Just because it’s not in your job description doesn't mean you shouldn’t make an effort to do it. Try stepping out of your comfort zone or challenge yourself with a different task to see how you’ll measure up–it may even catch your boss’ attention and lead to a well-deserved raise. (Yes!)

Waiting for the opportunity

While windows and doors can sometimes open for you, there are also opportunities you need to grab instead of waiting for them. Look at successful people like Manny Pacquiao, Walter Disney, Oprah Winfrey, and Steve Jobs–success wasn't handed to them on a silver platter. They worked their way up to where they are now.

Negative thinking
How you react to setbacks in your life can be a big game changer. According to a recent study by the University of California, positive and happy people earn more money, display superior performance, and perform more helpful acts. So the next time you find yourself in a slump, look at the brighter side of life and see it as a challenge to do better.

Not planning or goal setting

Terri Babers, a life and leadership coach from Alaska, says you are more likely to achieve your goal when you have a definite plan in mind. "When you set goals for your personal strivings, it is easier to look back and actually see what you’ve achieved." Also, having a goal keeps you motivated to becoming a better you, whether that’s on a personal or professional note.

Resisting change
Once again, it’s a battle between you and yourself. Are you worried of what lies ahead once you leave your comfort zone? Break free from the norm and try something else. Think of it as an opportunity to grow and improve or a chance to learn something new.
