1. Have a samalamig stand.
With the temperatures rising, a samalamig stand in front of your house gate can seem like an oasis to those walking under the afternoon sun. Create your own version of famous drinks such as buko-pandan and gulamat at sago. You can also go beyond thirst quenchers: No one will say no to ice candy or halo-halo in this sweltering heat.

2. Do a garage sale.

If you’re not going out of town, the summer holidays can be a great opportunity to de-clutter. Sort through your drawers and your cabinets and see what you can let go of, then open a garage sale of interesting knick-knacks. After all, every one loves a good ukay-ukay.

3. Pet-sit for your neighbors.
For sure, a lot of your neighbors will be out of town, and some would probably need to leave their pets behind. Offer to play nanny to their fur babies until they get back. Just make sure to take note of the animal’s regular routine, as well as its diet, allergies, or illnesses and medications before turning your place into a temporary pet hotel.

4. Be a tour guide.
This is a good idea especially if you’re heading home to your province which happens to be a tourist hotspot. Create an itinerary and offer to be a travel guide to both local and foreign visitors. Differentiate yourself from the rest by offering to take them to places outside famous destinations and by creating different packages for different budgets.

5. Offer a room for rent.
This is another great idea for those who live near top destinations. As many hotels and transient homes tend to be fully-booked for the rest of the summer, you can fix an extra room in your house and set it up for rent. You can also go the extra mile by offering free breakfast as part of the deal.
