We’ve had our fair share of scandals in the past, but nothing seems to sting as much as the latest pork barrel issue involving Janet Lim-Napoles as well as five senators and 23 congressmen. Now, the spotlight's on Janet’s daughter, Jeane Napoles, whose social media photos have earned the ire of many netizens. Many of the photos showed Jeane in extremely expensive designer clothes and accessories, and although her accounts seemed to have been taken down, the photos are still available at blogs like totocausing.blogspot.com. ABS-CBNNews.com also posted a YouTube video of Jeane’s lavish 21st birthday party.

Of course, the law says that a person is innocent until proven guilty, but the public doesn’t always see things that way, especially when tax money is involved. Here, we present three lessons we could all learn from the issue.

1. Learn to keep a low profile.

There’s nothing wrong with taking selfies or blogging about your love for fashion and the finer things in life, but when your mother (or anyone close to you, for that matter) is embroiled in a scathing scandal, it’s best to keep your head down. Lock all your social media accounts or delete them altogether ASAP. You can always create a new account online, but your real-life reputation may be a bit harder to fix.

2. Know who your friends are.

According to ABS-CBNNews.com, a friend of Jeane was actually the one who sent the photos. The said friend, whoever he or she may be, is most probably not on good terms with the young Napoles, given the scale of the betrayal. But whether you have a lot of money or not, the issue teaches us that it can’t hurt to be a bit choosier with your friends, lest one of them attacks you while you’re down.

3. The grass is not always greener.

Jeane may wear designer clothes and live a posh lifestyle, but you wouldn't want to be her right now, would you? This whole scandal shows that everything could change in a snap, and life isn't as perfect as it seems on Instagram or Facebook. For now, you can breathe a sigh of relief that all you really worry about is your bitchy boss or your annoying colleague at work.
