Laughter in the bedroom can be awkward, sometimes painful, but that’s not always the case. Genuine happy sex—the kind that leaves you sated, glowing, and even a bit giddy—can also elicit laughter between the sheets (the good sort, of course!). Now, we’re no William Masters, but we like to think that having happy sex is just as good as can’t-wait-to-rip-your-clothes-off sex.

According to, “Laughter during sex can be playful as well adding in the element of teasing each other through touch and communication.” Interested in exploring the lighter side of sex? Read on to find out how you can have a happy sack session.

1. Start by being in a good mood.
Being in the mood for love isn’t necessarily the same thing as being in a good mood. While the former is important, we’re currently much more invested in the latter. After all, the happier you are, the more likely you can engage in fun and flirtatious foreplay.

Now you may be asking yourself, “If this is the case, then why aren't we having more happy and uncompicated sex?” The reason is simple: You’re not always in a cheerful mood, and when you are feeling chipper, sex isn't always on your mind. So when you find yourself (and hopefully him as well) in such a mood, don’t hesitate to initiate contact.

2. Make him laugh.
Believe it or not, you don’t need to try very hard to make your man (or anyone else for that matter) laugh. According to The Guardian, “Most laughter followed banal remarks such as “Look, it's Andre,” “Are you sure?” and “It was nice meeting you too.”

Of course, if you’re already the touching each other, you’d need more than that that elicit laughter from your partner. In this case, try talking about something that made you laugh at work or try bringing up a memory of a funny incident you both witnessed. All the while, don’t stop giving his body its much-needed attention while you two shake from laughter. It may sound and even feel silly, but who says sex has to be a serious affair anyway?

3. Think happy thoughts.
As things start heating up, keep your thoughts generally happy. Feel the warmth of your shared laughter spread all over your body. Don’t let your thoughts stray toward anything mundane or negative, and don't pressure yourself too much. Grin, and smile at each other. Keep eye contact, so you don’t lose the connection you two have (unless, of course, you’ve switched positions where sustained eye contact is simply impossible).

Don’t be afraid to let your partner hear you laugh out loud either. It's perfectly normal. According to, “A giggle is one of those energetic release mechanisms that the human body so mysteriously expels when it wants to let out what has been building inside.” Just ask the Inuit Eskimos. There's a good reason why they refer to sex as “laughing time!
