No summer is complete without at least one trip to the beach! This school break, why not take the entire family for a whole lot of sun, sand, and surf? Contrary to what you might think, there's a lot more you can do there than just wade in the water. Here are five of our suggestions:

1. Build sand castles. We don't mean the shapeless mounds you used to make. This time, really challenge yourself by creating a sand castle worthy of taking a photo op with. recommends that you bring a small shovel, a bucket, and some carving tools to help you create your fortress.

2. Go treasure hunting. Give your kids a special mission, so they won't get bored at the beach. Ask them to collect the prettiest shells they can find or to create a treasure map they can easily follow. End the day by rewarding them with a yummy seafood feast!

3. Teach your kids to create smoothies and milkshakes. There's no better way to enjoy summer at a beach than with a cool drink in hand--and by a cool drink, we mean chocolate milkshakes and iced mochas!

4. Do a bit of stargazing. The beach provides a wide, open sky that's absolutely perfect for stargazing. Lay down on the beach, and try to pinpoint constellations.

5. Try something new like surfing! If the beach you're going to has decent waves, take the opportunity to take up surfing! It makes for an awesome summer experience for the kids! No waves? Try skimboarding instead.
