You might want to include more apples in your diet for a more satisfying snuggle with your beau. According to The Huffington Post , a new study published in Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics says that apples help women enjoy sex more.
A team of researchers surveyed 731 sexually active Italian women aged 18 to 43 with no history or complaint of sexual disorder. The participants were free from prescription drugs, and those who were suffering from depression were excluded.
The women were divided into two groups. The first group had regular apple consumption (one to two apples a day), and the second group had almost no apple consumption (0 to 0.5 apples per day). Then they filled out the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), a test composed of 19 questions that covers sexual function, sexual frequency, orgasm, lubrication and overall sexual satisfaction.
Researchers associated daily apple consumption with higher FSFI scores in sexually active participants. The women who had regular apple consumption also had increased lubrication and overall sexual function.
The study team figured that apples behave like red wine and chocolate: they are packed with polyphenols and antioxidants that help improve sexual function by stimulating blood flow in the genitalia and vagina, thus boosting arousal. Plus, apples have phloridzin, a common phytoestrogen with a similar structure to estradiol, a female sex hormone that is key in lubrication and female sexuality.
The study only examined a small number of women, so it’s too soon to declare the fruit's major role in bedtime satisfaction, but, you have to admit that the results are, indeed, intriguing.
Are you planning on munching on more apples than you did before?
