Maybe, at least once in your life you've been cheated on, or worse, you were the one who was dishonest. Though it may be subjective, have you ever wondered what constitutes infidelity for most people?

In a new study by organization Relate and Relationships, it was revealed that there's a big difference between what men and women considered as cheating. According to the research, many men think that "passionately kissing" another person outside their relationship is not being unfaithful at all.

Out of the 5,000 people surveyed, 19 percent of the male respondents (or 1 out of 5 men) believe that locking lips with someone else is okay, while only 9 percent of the women concur.

Unsurprisingly, 93 percent of the subjects say the clearest indicator of cheating is having sex outside the relationship.

When it came to flirting (like exchanging raunchy messages), respondents were a bit more divided as 31 percent doesn't regard this as adultery, while over half (55 percent) think otherwise.

The study also found that 23 percent is convinced that going to a strip club was cheating. Meanwhile for 16 percent, watching pornography alone is also one form.

But whatever people deem constitutes cheating, these acts are mostly the reason relationships go astray, the study suggests.

In case you cheated on your partner, the best thing to do is to deal with it. According to Dr. Tyler Ong, PsyD, MS, a Cebu-based clinical psychologist, and family and marriage therapist, you should admit to your partner your wrongdoings "because you are not the only person in the relationship, she has the right to the information that will help her make an individual decisions about where to direct her life."

According to the doctor, this secret, in one way or another, will reveal itself over time.

"Secrets almost always end up destroying the relationship. The longer a secret is kept, it ferments, and that secret can singlehandedly terminate the relationship without further complicating stressors," says Dr. Ong.

"Once you cheat, you create a problem by choice, and it will be a very sticky mess to get out of. Do not create the problem in the first place."
