Getting bored when you’ve been with someone for quite some time happens and sometimes the things you used to enjoy doing with your significant other don’t seem to be as exciting as they used to be. If you feel like you’re in the middle of a relationship rut, here are simple things you can do to reignite the spark again:
1. Go out on meaningful dates
An issue that concerns most long-term couples is that they don't go out on dates anymore. Or they're mostly sandwiched between errands and they no longer happen just because you want to have fun and spend time together. It doesn’t matter if it’s just dinner or the usual movie date, as long as you both have a great time in each other's company. So plan something that will make you look forward to meeting. “Just like people need promotions in their work in order to feel challenged and rewarded, couples need to feel that same adrenaline rush in a relationship,” says Life Coach Kali Rogers.
2. Pick up a new hobby together.
Maybe you've just been stuck doing the same things for years! Try taking up a new sport or even a one-time class together for a change.
3. Take a trip down memory lane.
If both of you think your relationship is going stale, why not re-live the past and go back to the days when you two first started dating. Re-visit places you enjoyed going to and do things that made the both of you really happy – it’s a simple way to make sparks fly again.
4. Pinpoint the root cause
…and deal with them head on. Instead of over-thinking it, talk to your man about it and come up with a solution that the both of you can commit to. But before that, you have to figure out what the root of the problem is, says Rachel A. Sussman, L.C.S.W. and author of The Breakup Bible – is it just boredom or something more serious?
“You have to have balance, relationships can’t be your everything,” says Sussman. “Make sure you feel stimulated in your job, in your friendships, and in your relationship. If you want to have a stimulating and exciting life, it’s each person’s responsibility.”
