The early stages of being in love can be exciting. The uncertainty of the situation opens up new possibilities and fantasies, and the rush is enough to give you goosebumps and keep a silly smile on your face.
But what if the person you want can’t return your feelings? “Can we just be friends” is one of the worst things you can hear from someone you are in love with. Any words to try to placate you after that would probably sound like unintelligible jargon, background noise to the sound of your heart breaking. Cheesy, yes, but if you’re standing in front of the object of your pain and affection, it may not be too far-fetched.
Unrequited love is painful. Comic strip character Charlie Brown perfectly surmised it by saying “Nothing takes the taste out of peanut butter quite like unrequited love.” Frustration, sadness, self-doubt--you'll probably feel all of these things, but remember that you’re not the first person to nurse a broken heart, and you won’t be the last. Eventually, you’ll have to get over it and move on. Let us help you; with these tips, perhaps you can get back on track.
