Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe—so goes the old saying. While many brides still follow this tradition in the form of vintage jewelry or new designer shoes, they've also opened their arms to creative storytelling. In fact, when brides-to-be find themselves together, the conversation inevitably turns to wedding themes. As one bride to another, you are somehow obligated to share the details of your upcoming nuptials, and no, these days, color motif doesn't count.

While we don't have a standing appointment with the altar ourselves, we understand that coming up with a beautiful yet personally relevant wedding theme can be a challenge, so we did a bit of digging and found some really intriguing ideas on GIRLTalk. Some are lifted from the bride's and groom’s history (one of our GIRLTalkers actually recreated a school fair for her wedding), while others are dependent on the venue (A garden in Tagaytay immediately warrants a fairytale wedding). Here, we round up five of the most inspiring wedding themes from GIRLTalk just in time, hopefully, for your big day!

1. Blast from the Past

From GIRLTalker Adam1025:

Sis gemwin21, we had rustic school-themed wedding dahil since elementary days, magkakilala na kami ni hubby and competitors kami during quiz bees and everything. We [added a] rustic theme lang para di naman masyadong informal ang theme, we used chalkboard-style table numbers [for] wedding signs (both chalkboard and wood), pencil as escort card, library card as guest card, and report card as menu card. Naglagay din kami ng mixed ball food cart instead na candy buffet so parang nasa school fair lang sila hehe, and kissing booth instead of photobooth. We don't have official photos yet, but here are some photos from our food cart supplier, I think naga-arrange pa lang ang caterer nung nakuhanan ng photos 'yan (check actual thread to see the link)

You can check Pinterest, too, for more inspirations, na-enjoy ko mag-isip and mag-plan for our theme kasi hindi siya ganun ka-common pa. Happy preps! :)

2. Cherry Blossom Parade

From GIRLTalker khriseeee:

I remember when I first met my coordinator and stylist, they kept bugging me for a theme. I thought themes were corny and said I only had a color theme - shades of pink. Anyways, they kept bugging me and while we were in the meeting I flipped thru a Martha Stewart wedding mag. There was a whole spread on cherry blossoms, and I made a comment that it was always a dream of mine to be proposed under cherry blossoms. Both my coordinator and stylist got so excited and said that's our theme! I went along with it.

In fairness it turned out beautifully. We had a cherry blossom trees set-up in our venue :)

3. Quirky Candy Store

From GIRLTalker aebrbiyc2009:

Was backreading and saw some themes such as sport and police. Minsan naiisip ko na mahirap maghanap ng materials pang-theme sa Pinas lalo na walang main suppliers para sa weddings. Dito kasi sa Canada merong weddingstar. You can check their web online and they ship internationally. They have something for any theme, ang cute pa ng cake toppers nila. :)

Anyway, matagal pa ako pero I'm leaning towards a quirky-candystore-retro theme. Retro but with pastel colors (lavender, lime, yellow, blush pink), small vinyl-like cds as invitations, vinyl LP records for guests' messages to be written in white cd marker, candy buffet featuring candies I grew up as a kid (dubble bubble, tootsie roll, white rabbit, gumballs, etc.) with cupcakes too, mason jars as glasses for drinks (mainly lemonade, nag-iipon ako thru Starbucks frappe bottles na nabibili ko. LOL), maybe a mobile bar for martinis or isang hotdog/burger stand and milkshakes.

4. Happily Ever After

From GIRLTalker sweetberries:

Mine was fairytale theme.. what we did was we put accent sa venue like we put drapes, crystals and buttefly on the ceiling then 'yung pinaka stage for bride and groom, we make gaya dun sa twighlight during nung kasal nila Bella, 'yung may gorgeous flowered arch and flowers hanging something like that. :)

5. Bibliophile Heaven

From GIRLTalker g_girl143

Hi mga sis! Share din ako sa theme ng wedding ko this April 2013 :)

Since me and my fiance are both bibliophiles, we've decided to go for a book theme for our wedding. We're working on possibly having our prenup in Fully Booked or a library somewhere.

For our giveaways, we're planning on a book of poetry (he's a poet) with corresponding illustrations by me (an artist). On this note, can anyone suggest any good but affordable print shops who can offer such a service (for the poetry books)?
