Do you and your family have the perfect vacation planned this summer? Make sure all of you get to go by keeping everyone safe from summer's most prevalent diseases. After all, a family trip won't be as fun if ate or kuya suddenly get ill. Check out what you should prepare for below:

1. Sore Eyes

Kids normally get sore eyes as a result of rubbing their eyes with not-so-clean hands. According to SmartParenting.com.ph, sore eyes is more prevalent during the summer “because the environment is drier and dustier, so the wind easily carries the irritants in the air, causing our eyes to get irritated.” The best way to avoid this is, of course, to keep your kids’ hands away from their eyes and by practicing proper handwashing. “We can avoid sore eyes by constant hand washing," says Health Assistant Secretary Paulyn Ubial in an article on Philstar.com.ph. "Ideally, wash your hands 20 times a day, especially before eating and after coming out of the comfort room.”

2. Heat Stroke

During these summer months, a heat stroke can be about as common as the cold. The Department of Health (DOH) advises everyone to stay indoors from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. as much as possible. Wearing a cap or carrying an umbrella should also help. “If unavoidable, drink plenty of water to avoid being dehydrated,” adds DOH-NCR Director Eduardo Janairo in an article on Journal.com.ph.

3. Chicken Pox

Chicken pox is caused by the varicella-zoster virus and is also quite contagious. Children, however, are more susceptible to it. According to WebMD, the first symptoms include headaches and a sore throat. Afterward, the chicken pox rash will start to show. The spots can can be quite itchy, and your kids will probably try to scratch them, so make sure you have a cool washcloth ready at all times. Reader's Digest says this can help curb their urge to scratch, keeping the skin free from infection and scarring.
