They do say opposites attract, which is probably the secret to the longstanding relationship between Heart Evangelista and her husband Chiz Escudero. The two, who have been married for seven years now, are stronger than ever—and it seems that even their viewpoints when it comes to money are never an issue.

In an episode of Adulting with Chiz on Heart’s YouTube channel, the couple got candid about how they handle their finances together. “Kung iyon ay hindi nyo mapag-usapan, then may problema kayo,” Chiz says.

Pwedeng pag-usapan ng diretso. Pwedeng it just flows. By tradition, men provide. Pero sa mundo ngayon hindi na rin, kasi may mga sitwasyon na mas madami naman kinikita yung babae tulad mo kesa yung lalaki. Hindi naman masama, kawalan o sampal sa lalaki. Hindi dapat pine-personal yung ganun,” he continues, explaining that they’re both working for the household.Heart Evangelista opens up about her finances with Chiz EscuderoInstagram/iamhearte

He also notes that the notion that women are earning more used to be frowned upon by previous generations. “Pero nung sinaunang panahon siguro, ika nga, nakaka-lalaki yung babae. May ganun pa. Pero ngayon wala nang ganun.”

“Marriage is about helping each other. Not only with respect to expenses, but in other things as well. Emotional, psychological, and so on. Expenses are the least of your worries,” the incumbent governor adds.

When asked if couples should have a shared bank account, Chiz answers, “Not necessarily,” saying that they have their own respective accounts themselves. “Kase hindi naman palaging dapat lumulubog sa kumunoy. Dapat may isang maiiwan sa taas para hilahin yung lumulubog sa kumunoy,” he jokes.

Heart, one of the country’s top fashion influencers known for her fondness for ~uber-expensive~ luxury items, further shared her husband’s advice on how to handle her earnings smartly. “Lagi sinasabi ni Chiz, ‘Okay, you wanna work. If you want to spend your money, then okay. Enjoy your hard-earned money. But you can’t expect na parehas tayong dalawa na nagwa-waldas ng pera,’ because in any case, if things don't work out for the other person, you have a parachute. And my parachute is Chiz,” she laughs.
