With only seven days to go before Mother’s Day, we’d like to list down seven reasons why our moms are some of the greatest people we know.

1. They carried us for nine months!

It’s hard enough carrying a backpack full of books all day; just imagine what our moms had to go through what with all our squirming and kicking for more than half a year. But despite the morning sickness and the constant heaviness and pain, a lot of moms would say that they cherished every moment that their kids were in their belly. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, actress Halle Berry reveals, "My pregnancy was amazing. I was happy that whole time, I felt good, I had energy, I was like Superwoman. I wish I could feel like that for the rest of my life, that's how fantastic it was."

2. They would do anything to give us a brighter future.

It sounds like a line from a teleserye, we know, but it still doesn’t change the fact that our moms want us to have a better life. They’ll go to any lengths to send us to a good school and crawl to hell and back just to make sure we end up living a comfortable life. They’ll forget about themselves, make constant sacrifices, and trade in their own fortunes so we can make ours.

3. They’re our number one fan.

Not all moms are as vocal about their feelings as others, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t support us. Chances are, they have a treasure trove of medals, certificates (even if they’re all just certificates of participation), and even drawings hidden away somewhere.

4. They're AWESOME role models.

Our moms are amazingly resilient in the face of obstacles. They’ll cry when they have to, but they’ll also mask their feelings if they feel like we need them to be strong. Designer Diane von Furstenberg's mother was the epitome of strength. "Most people's mothers are the most influential person in their life. But my mother survived the [concentration] camps, and she was very strong. She made me strong, but she wanted me to be strong. That's more important."

5. They raised us to become independent women.

Moms can be stern about our curfews or the way we spend our money sometimes, but everything they do or say have helped turn us into the kind of self-supporting women we are today.

6. They're not afraid to dish out the cold, hard facts.

Honesty is hard to come by these days, but our moms will never keep the truth from us if they feel like we really need to hear it. They’ll be the first to tell us to put our college clothes to pasture (even as we force ourselves to fit in them), and they’ll be the first to say that maybe our boyfriends aren’t exactly the kind of guy who can give us a good future (long before the eventual breakup).

7. They love us no matter what.

Our mothers are not perfect, but then again, neither are we, but they love us all the same. No matter how many times we give them a headache (especially when our credit card bill shows up), when it comes down to it, our mothers can never really stop loving us. They may say some hurtful things sometimes, but we just have to learn to read between the lines.
