Starting a conversation with a guy you don't know but like is admittedly a little tough. As most women do not wish to initiate small talk for fear of being labeled as too forward, the moment often passes with a feeling of regret and without any resolution. Tired of letting all those opportunities go to waste, but not sure about how to get the ball rolling? Here are a few tips to help you break the ice!
1. If you're in a bar and he's a friend of a friend
Discreetly ask your common companion to make introductions. Shake his hand warmly and ask about how he and your friend met. Finding and relating with the same experiences can help you both feel more familiar with each other.
2. If someone you know is bringing him to a party you're hosting
So you think your officemate's brother is cute. Why not take the opportunity to start something up with him? If you're close with your colleague, ask him or her about general things that he's into so that you can warm the conversation up with him by talking about his interests. Just make sure that doing your homework doesn't progress to full-on social media stalking.
3. If you bump into him at the grocery store
If you've just had a head-on collision with his shopping cart, apologize, and add humor to the situation. Say something like "I'm sorry, but I'm pretty clumsy at times," or just laugh the whole thing off before politely introducing yourself. Making a joke from something that started negatively can give you the opportunity to make things right.
4. If he's someone you always see at your favorite coffee shop
You always hang out in the same place, and you've both already acknowledged each other's existence by eye contact. The only thing lacking is a proper introduction. Find the opportune moment when you can speak with him–say, while waiting in line to order–and don't forget to smile!
5. If you're on a blind date
This is the first time you're seeing each other, and you don't have your kabarkada to fall back on. Stay calm and carry yourself with confidence, as he's probably as nervous as you. If he can't seem to find the right things to say to start things off, help him out by asking him about himself. He may seem awkward at first, but once you show him that you're genuinely interested, you'll start having a decent conversation.
