Creating chemistry between you and your crush is not rocket science, but it's still science, according to psychotherapist and author M. Gary Neuman. In an interview with Business Insider, Neuman cites five scientifically-proven ways to get the guy of your dreams to fall for you. Want to give it a try? Read on!
1. Maintain eye contact.
Intimacy increases between people who look away less, says Neuman. In fact, people who are in love reportedly maintain eye contact 75 percent of the time! So if you happen to catch the office cutie’s eye, try holding his gaze for a second or two longer. Just make sure you do it in a way that doesn't seem like you've been staring at him for the last five minutes (and we know you have!).
2. Be a good listener.
Researchers from the University of Nevada and the University of Washington have found that people are more likely to fall in love with good listeners. The next time your cute neighbor tells you about his last out-of-town trip, be curious. Neuman says keep asking follow-up questions, but don’t make it all about you. Take this opportunity to get to know more about the guy you like.
3. Provide validation.
You need to make your partner feel like a winner, says Neuman. If they feel like they’re getting it right with you, they're more likely to fall in love.
4. Smile more often.
A study from Drake University reports that smiling at the object of your affection makes it more likely for him to return your feelings. Neuman says it automatically makes you more attractive and engaging. Our tip: Give your lips some TLC every day. Keep them soft and smooth and he'll be thinking of little else all day.
5. Touch him more.
The closer you seem together, the greater the intimacy you build. In due time, he may end up falling head over heels in love with you. It's just a matter of whether he realizes it or not.
