Not all Mother’s Day gifts have to be expensive or even store-bought. As long as your present comes from the heart, your mom will definitely treasure it. Here are a couple of DIY ideas that you might want to consider.

1. Write her a song.

The Spice Girls did it, and so did the Backstreet Boys. Look to them for inspiration, and come up with a special song just for your mom. We guarantee that she’ll have tears in her eyes before you even get to the high notes.

2. Make her a personalized notebook.

Does your mom like to take notes or make lists? Create a personalized notebook she can carry around with her all the time. Use a photo of the two of you together for the front cover, and pepper the pages randomly with sweet messages. That way, she’ll always get a pleasant surprise whenever she uses it.

3. Create a video montage for your mom.

Gather the best pictures and videos of your mom over the years, and make a special tribute video out of them. Choose a really good song (or songs) to accompany the images. It’s a great way to say thank you to your mom for everything she has done for you.

4. Prepare all her favorite meals.

Your mom has spent years cooking your favorite foods. Now, you get to return the favor. Come up with a list of all her must-eats and design a sophisticated menu. Practice cooking the dishes in secret, so you can wow her with your cooking skills come Mother’s Day.

5. Paint for her.

This Mother’s Day, gift your mom with a portrait that you painted yourself. It will definitely reflect how she inspires you and that’s something every mother will want to know.
