In the age of DVDs and the Internet, it can be hard to convince kids to play with tangible toys. Get your kids off the couch by giving them playthings that’ll pique their interest, stimulate their brains, and help them form friendships.
“The ages seven to 15 are when kids’ personalities and interests evolve,” says Nikki Cotoco-Chu, M.D., a pediatrician at St. Luke’s Medical Center. At this stage, toys should help promote creativity and develop new skills, including life skills they’ll need as they grow older.
Erica Paner, a teacher at the Ateneo de Manila Grade School, adds, “Toys should also build self-esteem and develop values such as persistence and respect for other people.”
