Christmas is celebrated in a big way here in the Philippines. Lampposts, shopping malls, buildings, and even gasoline stations start putting up Christmas decorations just after Halloween. Filipinos generally embrace any reason to celebrate wholeheartedly, so Christmas, with its message of joy, happiness, and cheer, is not only welcomed, but embraced.

But where did the symbols and traditions that we associate with Christmas come from? Why do we have a Christmas tree in our homes, and what about the Christmas wreaths we hang on our doors?
