Many people simply associate Cebu with lechon and dried mangoes, but the truth is that it’s so much more than that. Metro Cebu is the second largest urban center in the Philippines, after Metro Manila, and Cebu City has the distinction of being the oldest city in the country.

In world history, it’s noted as the place where the intrepid Ferdinand Magellan was killed during his attempt to go around the world. Philippine nationalists call Lapu-Lapu, whose forces overcame those of Magellan in that final battle, the first hero of the Filipino people, despite the fact that, at the time of the battle, there was no notion of the Filipino or the Philippines.
