1. "UNDERNEATH THE TREE" by Kelly Clarkson
There’s nothing like celebrating Christmas with a special someone after years of spending the holiday alone. Spread the love this season with this fresh, catchy ditty, the carrier single of Kelly Clarkson’s holiday album Wrapped in Red.
2. "RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER" by Mary J. Blige
Mary J. Blige puts a soulful spin to tried-and-tested classics with her holiday offering This Christmas. The album’s many musical gems make it a must-listen for the season, but we most enjoyed listening to the Queen of Hip Hop Soul’s unexpectedly fun rendition of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” If Santa were to make a gift-delivery playlist, this song should definitely be included!
3. "WINTER WONDERLAND" by Leona Lewis
The chances of getting snow in the Philippines may be slimmer than Kim Chiu’s arms, but that won’t ever stop us from dreaming of walking in a winter wonderland. Give yourself a figurative escape from the country’s tropical weather by spinning Leona Lewis’s cover of this classic cold-weather song on your way to work!
4. "THE CHIPMUNK SONG (CHRISTMAS DON’T BE LATE)" by Tegan And Sara
Tegan and Sara doesn’t seem like the type of artists who would cover Christmas songs in earnest. And yet, they did just that a few years back when they covered—of all the songs—Alvin and the Chipmunks’ rendition of “Christmas Don’t Be Late.” On a side note, who would’ve thought that the twins would have such adorable chipmunk alter-egos?
5. "LAST CHRISTMAS" by The XX
The Wham! Classic gets a twist with English indie band The XX’s slower, edgier version. Granted, it’s not the peppiest cover out there, but we love how the band shined the spotlight on the song’s bittersweet lyrics. If you’re need help getting over a holiday heartbreak, this song is for you.
6. "SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN" by Justin Bieber
While the Biebs is busy proving to the world that he’s now a grown-up bad boy, let’s look back to when he was the wholesome teenage sensation whom we all knew and loved. Here he is from a few years back, making this fun Christmas classic his own.
7. "O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL" by Bad Religion
We can’t help but love how Bad Religion gave the most solemn chorale staples a much-needed rock makeover in their album Christmas Songs. Just give “O Come All Ye Faithful” a listen and you’ll agree with us. Bonus points for the sheer irony of a band named “Bad Religion” actually releasing a Christmas album!
8. "LIGHT OF CHRISTMAS" by Owl City feat. TobyMac
Gearing up for Christmas could test one’s patience: from battling the crowds while shopping for presents, to all the mishaps that can go wrong while decorating your house for the holidays. Don’t let the season’s stress turn you into a scrooge: here’s a cheery track from Owl City to get you all pumped up while preparing for the most wonderful time of the year.
9. "CHRISTMAS CONFUSION" by Joshua Bell ft. Igudesman and Joo
Violinist extraordinaire Joshua Bell teamed up with fellow ingénues Igudesman and Joo for a fun instrumental medley of well-loved holiday songs in “Christmas Confusion.” Listen to it below and see if you can identify all the songs in this amazing mash-up!
10. "XMAS LIGHTS" by Ang Bandang Shirley
Here’s an OPM track from Ang Bandang Shirley for a fitting Pinoy touch to our playlist. Whether you’re happy in love, looking for love, or swearing off love this holiday season, you won’t be able to resist “Xmas Lights’” infectiously kilig melody.
