Gardens are more than just a decorative use of space. They offer us venues for solitude and meditation, space in which our kids can romp and we can hold barbecues and parties, and they help us go green--literally!

Now, authors Lily Gamboa O'Boyle and Elizabeth V. Reyes and photographer Luca Invernizzi Tettoni offer us an enticing glimpse at some of the most beautiful tropical gardens in the country in their book, Tropical Gardens of the Philippines, which launched on November 10, 2010.

Says Lily of the book: "I think [you will love it], first of all, because it has beautiful photographs; secondly, because a lot of women love gardens, whether or not they have green thumbs. Also, the book features gardens big and small, and there will be something there for everyone. Lastly, the book is a wonderful introduction to tropical plants and gardens. For those familiar with these, it will be interesting to see them in a new light, and for those new to them, it can be a wonderful introduction to a whole new plant world."

Check out the gallery below for a glimpse at some of the featured gardens and for tips on how you can prettify your own green space.

Tropical Gardens of the Philippines is available exclusively from National Book Store and Power Books, at a standard retail price of P1,950.
