'90s kids, here's some really exciting news: You'll be able to play with your Tamagotchi using your smartphones soon!

You already know that Bandai Namco, the Japan-based interactive entertainment software publisher, is bringing back your childhood virtual pet in all its egg-shaped glory for their 20th anniversary, but it looks like they've got more tricks up their sleeve. According to NintendoLife.com, Bandai Namco is launching My Tamagotchi Forever for iOS and Android in 2018 so you can take your Tamagotchi experience to a whole new level.

The game will feature classic as well as brand-new game modes. For one, your Tamagotchi characters will all live in Tamatown, a place where you can collect items which you can use to have fun with your virtual pet and make friends with other Tamagotchi characters. The app will also let you compare your progress with your friends! Our favorite feature is the super-cool augmented-reality function. Check it out:

Bandai Namco has yet to announce a release date, but according to Shack News, the app has already been soft-launched in Canada. We're crossing our fingers it becomes available here as soon as we ring in 2018! Oh, and since you're most likely on your mobile phone 24/7, you have no excuse to let your Tamagotchi die this time around!
