Some of us might know L-Carnitine, a vitamin-like substance that naturally occurs in animal cells, as a nutrient that can help in weight loss. But it’s not just us humans who need this supplement—our pets need it too, and probably more than we do! Dr. Marco Ripoll, the Technical Manager of Animal Science, Inc., tells us how this wonder nutrient can do our pet some good.
1. IT HELPS OVERWEIGHT CATS SLIM DOWN.
Obesity isn’t just a trend in humans—through the years, this epidemic has spread to a lot of our pets, too. This is where L-carnitine comes in: this nutrient can help your pet attain a healthy body weight by encouraging fat loss while maintaining muscle mass at the same time.
2. IT PREVENTS LIVER DISEASE IN CATS.
Feline hepatic lipidosis is a serious condition in which a cat’s liver won’t function properly due to a large accumulation of fat. As L-carnitine is required for the processing and removal of the fatty acids in the liver, a deficiency of this nutrient can spell severe liver failure for your pet.
3. IT INCREASES BONE MASS, BONE DESITY, AND MUSCLE MASS IN LARGE BREED PUPPIES.
If you’re the proud new mommy of a German shepherd, a Labrador retriever, or a similar large dog breed, you should keep in mind that your pooch might suffer from skeletal and joint problems as they grow. Make sure that L-carnitine is included in your dog’s food to avoid these conditions.
