Nothing to do? Then you better start getting busy, as according to a feature on Elite Daily, boredom is one of the top reasons for people’s bad eating habits.

Researchers from the University of Central Lancashire worked with two groups. The first group had 52 participants who were given a questionnaire about their food preferences, which they were to fill out before and after an extremely boring task.

The second group of 45 participants was asked to watch either a boring or a funny video while offered an array of both healthy and unhealthy snacks.

Results revealed that the participants of the first group were more likely to choose fast food and sweets after completing their tedious task, while those from the second group showed that those who viewed the boring video chose to munch on junk food than healthy snacks.

You can’t really stop attacks of boredom, but you can keep yourself from snacking by timing your meals right, and checking if you’re really hungry or just wanting to binge. You can also try doing something interesting or productive, like cleaning your flat or rearranging your office cubicle.
