Ariella Arida made a lasting impression on the judges and won third-runner up at the Miss Universe 2013 Pageant held in Moscow, Russia, reports Philstar.com. In a taped interview, she was quoted as saying, “What's so special about the Philippines is the people. There's always Filipino spirit.” We completely agree.

2. Nonito Donaire wins against Vic Darchinyan.


Nonito Donaire Jr. is another proof of the strength of the Filipino spirit. After winning his featherweight rematch against Australia-based Armenian southpaw Vic Darchinyan, Inquirer.net reports that he called for prayers for the Philippines. “First and foremost, prayers to people in the Philippines who were hit by the typhoon,” he said. “Please have your prayers for people in the Philippines.”

3. Atom Araullo is #GuyInTheRain.


Atom Araullo is being hailed a hero for his brave coverage in Tacloban at the height of typhoon Yolanda. According to ABS-CBNNews.com, he became a top trending topic in the Philippines on Twitter shortly after his report aired on TV Patrol before making it to worldwide trends.

4. Liter of Light wins one of the world’s most important sustainability awards.


Liter of Light is a non-government organization that teaches women from low-income and at-risk communities to assemble locally sourced, sustainable, and affordable solar products, and provides affordable and sustainable DIY solar lighting for many impoverished communities. The organization received the Sustainia Community Award for 2013, which is chaired by Arnold Schwarzenegger and is decided entirely on public vote from the global sustainability community.

5. #PrayforthePhilippines is still a trending topic on Twitter.


Even though typhoon Yolanda has left our area of responsibility, Filipinos from all over the world are still continuing to #PrayforthePhilippines. Netizens show their support by spreading word of how we can all help the victims of the storm. Other trending topics include #ReliefPH and #TracingPH.
