Meet Sheilla Gagui, a 39-year-old mom and triathlete.
Sheilla started participating in various triathlons both locally and internationally in 2015.
At the start of the pandemic, however, the triathlete faced a huge challenge in her life.
In March 2020, she discovered a lump on her chest area while taking a shower. "I got a little bit worried," she recounted. "Sabi ko, 'Parang this is not normal, kasi I'm not breastfeeding naman na, or I didn't just give birth para magkaroon ako ng ganyan.'"
After taking several tests, the mom of two was diagnosed with breast cancer. “I was shocked—it’s like my whole world stopped kasi I was at my fittest,” she told Summit Media.
Despite the sudden change in her lifestyle, Sheilla remained strong, both inside and out, through regular workouts and the support of her family and friends.
“I got bald, my hair fell off. [My husband] was the one who shaved it and then, he told me that he will go bald, too. Even my son, sabi niya, ‘Mom, I want also to shave my hair,’” she recalled.
