According to Liz Vaccariello, editor-in-chief of Reader’s Digest, sleep deprivation has potentially devastating consequences and is considered a public health crisis by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Vaccariello also adds that lack of sleep can make you sick, fat, and stupid. "When we don’t get enough sleep, there are changes in our brain chemistry, in our hormones, and our metabolism, that affect our satiety and the way we metabolize our calories."
