Mixing substances never ends well for anybody, and according to TIME, the same rule applies to alcohol and energy drinks. In a study that involved 75 participants between the ages 18 and 30, researchers found that those who drank alcohol plus an energy drink were more likely to drink more than those who stuck with alcohol only. To keep the experiment as fair as possible, both groups were made to drink the same amount; the drinks were also mixed with a fruity beverage so they wouldn't taste bad.
The study, published in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research, may be small but it sends out a strong message to those who enjoy drinking and experimenting at the bar. After all, if drinking too much lowers your inhibitions and if mixing alcohol with energy drinks is making you want to drink more, then how will you know when to stop?
