Aside from your moisturizer and toner, you may want to put on a bit of sunscreen as well. According to a report from TIME, it may help protect your skin from aging.

In a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, Australian researchers examined 900 volunteers under 55 years old. One group was asked to regularly apply sunscreen with sun-protection factor (SPF) 15+ on their skin each morning and to reapply a few hours later or after sweating. Another was asked to apply based on their discretion. A follow-up was done four and a half years later.

The results showed that those who have a habit of applying sunscreen were 24 percent less likely to experience skin aging than those who didn’t use it regularly.

Aside from keeping your skin looking young, sunscreen may also protect you from ultraviolet radiation, which may penetrate the skin and cause more damage.

“As dermatologists, we have been saying for years and years, use SPF every day all year round,” says Dr. Doris Day, a dermatologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York and clinical associate professor at NYU Langone Medical School who did not take part in the study. “I always say, if you don’t need a flashlight to see outside, you need protection.”
